Welcome to the Rush Hour, your daily dose of pop culture for your rush hour ride. Buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host, stand up comedian, Dave Neal. Good afternoon, everybody. It's Monday, December 2nd, 2024. We have all of your pop culture and entertainment news in one place. Nikki Bella returns to her podcast to discuss her divorce from Artem Chigvintsev.

For the first time, we'll be sharing that in this episode. And Britney Spears turns 43 today. It's also a good day for her as her divorce is finalized. She's a single lady watch out. And then we commence our single mom Christmas wishlist today featuring Alison from North Carolina. So stick around for that nice story and winter is coming.

And outdoor dining officially has closed in New York city, uh, the end of a pandemic era, I'll discuss what that means for New York and for people who enjoy the outdoor dining moving forward. Plus Sheena Shea gives her thoughts on Vanderpump recasting for season 12. And then we also have an update from the guy.

Who hit Trevor Lawrence in the, uh, big game, uh, yesterday, the Texans, uh, Aziz Al Shire, he's sorry for the hit, but calls out racist fans. I'll have that story and so much more. And it's all coming up next on the rush. Well, I actually promised to have the story this morning, but we ran out of time. Justin Timberlake cancels third tour show due to health reasons says y'all know I hate doing this.

And then he, I guess he canceled his gig in Oklahoma city because he hurt his back in New Orleans. Look, I don't know if this is just the product of being old, but he's 43 years young. And he says, I hate canceling shows, uh, but he's got to reschedule it. I'm so sorry, I have to cancel the show on December 2nd.

That's. This tonight, I hurt my back in new Orleans and my doctors have instructed me to rest a little bit longer. Thank you for the support. Y'all know, I hate doing this. I think it's a little odd that he's canceling yet another time, but I don't know if there's anything more to the story. Uh, but yeah, interesting stuff.

And you know, like being a 43 year old pop star is not easy. Take it from Britney Spears. She turns 43 today and is also single again, two milestones on one day. It's not only her 43rd birthday, but she's officially single as new legal documents obtained by TMZ show her divorce from Sam Asghari became a done deal on Monday.

So good on her. She's single during the Christmas season. She doesn't have to get anyone a Christmas present. Isn't that nice? Um, well, uh, Gary Vee, uh, the motivational speaker has answered the question is cancel culture officially dead. Here's what he had to say. That's why cancel culture didn't work. You know that, right?

The reason it lost was because it didn't factor in intent. If you didn't mean to hurt someone's feelings, it's not great that you did, but it's very different than if you did. Do you think it worked in the beginning, though? Of course. Yeah, it was wild in the beginning. Of course it did. Do you think it's dead?

Oh, I think it's on its back back foot. Look, I think the concept of holding people accountable to bad deeds is a wonderful trait. But the branding of it, like what we did for a couple years there, which is at any moment's notice being like, I don't like the way you looked at that person. You should be fine.

Like that was fucking ridiculousness. Because intent was taken out. I say, I kind of say the same. I use this reason for why the bachelor series has kind of lost all of its drama. Contestants are so aware that if they say or do the wrong thing, that there'll be mass unfollowing and that people will come for their jug jugular, and then you get shamed if you even talk about cancel culture.

Now, there are instances where cancel culture, like he was saying, can have its intent, like if there was gross. Misjudgment or misjustice done where, you know, say someone like a, like a horrible person, like a Bill Cosby got off for his crimes, then you go, okay, well, then we need to boycott every one of his shows because he shouldn't, you know, those cases, it's obvious.

But then there's cases of nuance where you go, are you trying to punish somebody or? Uh, or you open for someone's redemption. So the irony, when like Chris Harrison was canceled was that a people don't really call it cancel culture because they go, well, he was paid. So it's not really canceling. And I say, I, my definition of cancel culture is when people come together to uh, vote with their dollar or to vote with a boycott and, um, they, they get someone, they, they change the trajectory of someone's career, usually for the worse, uh, financially speaking, you know, you could take, um, you know, a Regardless of any moral thoughts on whether what he did was right or wrong.

That's not that, you know, it's still, he was still quote unquote canceled. He had a movie that was taken out of distribution, which I think he self funded like a 30 million movie. So cancel culture doesn't mean you have to make somebody broke. It just means financially speaking or opportunity speaking, you took something or were part of a community's effort to take something away from somebody else.

So. Can still be used for good in the right reasons. I just think when the internet gets ahold of a case, sometimes the pitch forks, you know, it's true what they say when the, you know, when you get into a larger group, your IQ lowers, like, you know, when you, when you, you stop being able to think sort of, um, uh, objectively.

So what Gary Vee says here is absolutely right. Save room for. Compassion and empathy. The biggest mistake we've made as society is the inability to try to figure out intent. Intent is important. And you know, the intent of somebody who's making a joke might not be to harm somebody else, but that might be the effect.

And you have to go, well, are we judging people just on the effect? Because if we're judging people just on effect, then anybody could be offended by anything, you know? And I think we have to go back to having that grace to let people, you know, Try to navigate the world and learn and grow because, you know, we're all kind of in different places, uh, of progress, you know, and I say this almost hesitant, um, you know, I've seen this hesitating because you could miss, uh, you could miss clip what I'm talking about.

Telling you guys and say, Oh, Dave went on a rant being pro, you know, say whatever you want and have no consequences. No consequences should exist. But I also think, you know, we need to save room and realize that, you know, not everyone's perfect and there are consequences for the, you like how I transition.

There are consequences for the Vanderpump rules. Uh, cast that being, they all hate each other and don't want to work together. So the producers are bringing in a whole new batch of people. Here's what Sheena Shea had to say about the inevitable decision. She posted on Tik TOK. We always knew this day would come.

We say everyone's heard the news by now, but Vanderpump rules is being rebooted for season 12 with an all new cast at Sir, like the real housewives of New York. It's not Vanderpump rules. The new cast. Are they starting it on 12, or will they do what Reboot did? Reboot Roni starts at Season 1, doesn't. Same show, same IP, new cast.

Alright. How do you guys feel? I mean, I just have to thank everyone, you guys included, who have been checking in on me. Thanks so much! I always check in on Sheena. I feel like this wasn't a shock to us. I think we knew it was coming, but getting They should have known when the season, when the next season was delayed.

the call. This has been a moment that I've been waiting for in not like a positive way, but like knowing one day we're going to get the call that Vanderpump Rules is over. It's not going to go on for a hundred seasons. No show does. So I'm like, how am I going to feel the day that I get that call? And I felt at peace with it.

I feel like if it was last year, the year before, year before that, like, I think maybe I wouldn't have been in the same place in my life. I don't know. It's, it's mixed feelings. No, look, you could argue that now that the show is getting canceled, people who are fans of these cast members will now follow them more on podcasts because they won't be able to follow their lives through the show.

You could make that argument. But look, I think, I think what's interesting is this, whether you like it or not, Once you start on a show for a decade, you kind of start to become a diva. You probably, you probably become difficult to deal with. And then the show says, you know what? We could bring in 10 fresh faces.

We say jump, they say how high, and we can have a whole new experience with people willing to go the extra mile, say the extra thing for high drama. My guess is season 12 will have a little bit of, uh, Issue finding its footing, but I also think it's going to be sloppy as hell. That's what I think is going to be.

And I think that'll be good because I think it still has the same brand. Um, I also think it would be good if they, if they shot the new season, but sort of as a parallel still had alumni episodes, have you ever seen Jersey Shore? They'll have like special, um, like. Weekend of Jersey Shore episodes where they'll go on a family trip together and they'll catch up with them.

I think it would be very smart for Vanderpump to still do that. Still get the former cast in a room every once in a while to do a weekend at Tahoe or something like that. But hey, nobody, and I mean nobody asked me for my opinion, but that's where it is. Alright, we'll be back with our single mom Christmas wish list.

That's coming up next. We pride ourself here at the Rush Hour podcast of trying to give back to our community. And this year we're doing our single parent appreciation Christmas wish list. And by that, we've got a dozen or so people that we've chosen that we're going to try to help give a couple of gifts to this holiday season.

If you have any abundance in your life. Or if you love giving to strangers in the community, this is the way to do it. Every wishlist I'm sharing with you is an Amazon wishlist that will go directly to the people we're speaking of. And I'm going to share that list. I think we have 14, maybe 15 names on it.

And every day we're going to highlight somebody different today. It's Amazon. Carolina. Uh, we've got her Amazon wishlist. She's got a couple teenage kids and on the wishlist, uh, one of her son loves, uh, fishing. So they've got some fishing items and a bass pro shop, gift cards, things like that. Super simple, but boy, will it go a long way.

To see a single mom get a little bit of help during the Christmas season, here's the voicemail we received from Allison in North Carolina. Hey Dave, it's Allison again for the single mom's Christmas list. Um, I got my list together and emailed that off this morning through the form. Uh, like I said, last year I was on the list.

Um, My kids were not chosen for anything, which is okay, um, we did, uh, um, send a gift to one family ourselves. Um, I understand, you know, my kids are older, so sometimes it's not as fun to shop for them. Colin is 19. He hunts, he fishes, um, And he is a college student. Um, my daughter Piper is 16 and she loves makeup, anything fashion.

My Amazon list consisted of some gift cards for different places I know they would like to buy things from or could use things from. And also, I added some clothes on there that I know they could use this time of year, and Colin works outside, um, so I got some hand warmers and simple things like that, nothing extravagant.

If I'm chosen, wonderful. If I'm not, um, whoever's chosen, I know is extremely thankful. So, um, anyway, I just wanted to leave my message and, uh, hopefully we'll get added. If not, I hope everyone has a wonderful Thanksgiving and a Merry Christmas. Thank you. Well, Alison, you are not just added, you are our first mom of the season.

So let's go show Alison. Some of that gratitude and abundance that we have. And let's go help her and her kids, Colin and Piper, uh, get a little love. I'm sure they're like, mom, you listen to that weird podcast, but they sent us some gifts. You know, we're here for it, folks. Uh, we are here for it. So link in the description, which will share the wishlist for Allison.

I'm also going to include the wishlist that has. Everybody on it, because maybe you just want to knock off all the presence right now. We won't stop you there. The earlier that people do buy presents for our wishlist will be helpful. It'll be helpful for the, for, for them to know that their, what their wishes are being answered and covered and you know, all good stuff.

All good stuff. So Alison, we got you. We appreciate you being in the community and there's your update there. All right. Let's just move it right along to our next story of the day. We have a lot to cover outdoor dining in New York city streets ended over the weekend. Here is what CBS, New York had to say.

Outdoor dining in city streets ends today. From now on, it will be a seasonal affair running from April 1st to November 29th. And that means that restaurants have until the end of today to remove these structures or they could face fines of up to 1, 000 per violation. All right, so A lot of people that have never been to New York pre pandemic are like, Oh my gosh, we love the outdoor structures.

They're amazing. But you have to remember they only showed up because they were for, you know, restaurants were forced to make the outdoor structures because they couldn't have indoor dining. I think, I think what we learned about. All of these outdoor structures in New York City is that we don't need the parking spaces like nobody who lives in New York has cars downtown anyway, so these parking spaces just kind of get littered with people that don't really use their cars.

It's just a waste of space to be quite frank. Most of these parking spaces are a waste of space. I think. The city should come up with like a design team that has like five or 10 different approved structures that all fit the right code. They're not going to burn. They're easy to clean. And they should just try to like set these up year round for people.

But I understand like why they don't want them because a lot of these structures are now several years old. Maybe they're rotting their home to mice and things like that. A home, like I understand the issue. Uh, it's just, it's just going to be really tough for restaurants because they spent the money to create these dining areas because of the pandemic.

And now they're kind of forced to, to, to get rid of them. And how many of these restaurants will have a place to store them in the winter. And then, you know, I think. I think it would be nice if the city helped subsidize restaurants to give them a place to store them in the winter and also provide the transportation.

I don't know if that's possible. It seems like a lot of effort. Uh, but I think, I think the outdoor dining was a real value added to New York. That's my thought. I'd love to know what you guys think about that. All right, let's get down to it. Nikki Bella. Uh, had a divorce from Artem Chigvintsev. Of course, she accused him of domestic violence.

Uh, the county prosecutor ended up not pressing charges on him. He accused her of initiating the fight. He said it was in self defense. So, it's really just a he said, she said. Uh, but here's what she had to say on her podcast, The Nikki and Brie Show. She has finally returned and she's, uh, kind of sharing, I guess, a little bit about how, uh, how, you know, things have been.

I'm gonna try my best not to get too emotional on this episode. But, um, I first want to just thank everyone, the listeners, you, family, friends, coworkers, people I haven't talked to in a long time, just for all the love and support for the respect of privacy and space. The past few months I disconnected from social media from the world and I just knew that I needed to disconnect because first things first, I'm a mom and my son's protection and privacy is the most important.

So I was going to do whatever it took for that most importantly, and then just needing space for healing, for facing trauma head on, all of that. So, um, it's. Been tough. It's been really tough. I've been heartbroken, sad. Yeah, you know, you dream of having this family and you have this incredible love and it just goes the other way.

And you go from having a great love story to having a terrible one. And, um, never saw any of it coming, you know, as far as like what the ending would be. So it's, it's just been, it's been a struggle. I just, just so shocked. I was just, I've been so shocked, like beyond words and it's been. Heartbreaking, and I just, you know, it just, you lose your appetite, you cry a lot, and then I also, you know, stepped up and made sure everything was okay for Mateo, and so, it's just been, I don't even know what other words to use.

When you love someone so deeply, which, You know, I walked down the aisle and said I do because I love to this person so deeply. I would have done anything for them. I wanted to give them the world till my last breath and I would have taken a bullet for them. And when something like this happens and then you feel so betrayed, it's, you're just trying to figure it out.

You're, you're, you're feeling so many different emotions. And the whole day was just shocking. I handled things with a lot of love and grace because I love to this person so much. I, I still wanted great things for them or I wanted them to heal. I wanted them to get help. I wanted them to be the best version of themselves because also that's what my son deserves.

All right. And again, that's gotta be tough when you have a kid involved, because here's Nikki's side and then Artem's side is. Pretty much the exact opposite and here as audience. We don't know either one of them Uh, but uh glad for the very least that relationship is over, um, and they can move on from it All right.

Let's move on to another story here Uh, we've got mona2, uh, actually passed wicked at the box office over the weekend shattering thanksgiving weekend, uh records now, of course, we already covered that wicked is now the biggest I guess domestic, uh movie You That stems from a musical play. And now Disney's Mona to a debut to a whopping 221 million domestically over the five day weekend, smashing previous Thanksgiving weekend box office records.

Movie govers overseas. I've been flocking to the theater to see what the Mona sequel has in store at landing at a projected total of 165 million. In the international market. Dang, they are printing money. I have not seen Mona one nor Mona two, but now that I have a child, I'm sure I'll be catching up very soon on all of these movies I've got.

I haven't seen toy story two or three. I know what you're saying, Dave. Oh my gosh. It's amazing. I know. Listen. I'm already crying watching normal movies. I'm crying just getting through the single mom, uh, uh, appreciation list. I'm a very emotional person. I don't think I need one of these Pixar movies to make me cry even more.

You know what I mean? All right. Anyhow, I've got a couple more stories to get to. Uh, we are cruising through our Monday. I'll be back with more right after this. Uh, we covered the crazy hit yesterday that Trevor Lawrence received that knocked him out of the game. Uh, it would, it would, it received immediate penalties and started a brawl.

Well, the Texans player is now issuing a statement. He wrote a Houston Texans linebacker, Aziz Alshair. Here's what's next! Issuing a mea culpa to Trevor Lawrence over his controversial hit on Tuesday. He said he didn't intend to injure him. Here's his, here's what he had to say. My goal is to hit you as hard as I can.

Then I pray you're still able to get up and play the next play. And when the game is over, go home to your family unharmed. Because it's not personal, it's just competition. Uh, to Trevor, I genuinely apologize to you for what happened, for what ended up happening. Um, so again, he sounds very much like he's not taking fault.

He says, to the rest of the people who I've been called every single name in the book from, reporters with their hands, ready for a story to find their villain, to racist and Islamophobic fans and people, you don't know my heart nor my character, which I don't need to prove to any of you. Look, I might be ignorant here, but when I watched the play, when you watch it live, it's a bad hit, it deserves a penalty, it probably deserves a fine, but quarterbacks that are running quarterbacks, sometimes they go down like they're going to slide and then they don't, and it's like, what are you supposed to do if you're a defensive player and you've got to run full speed at them, trying to tackle them?

I understand at the very last second you tried to like lay off, but at the same time, it seems, it seems as though it was very bang bang. I know most people are on the side, like it was the. I don't know. I think, I think it's easy to say as we watch that in a little different when you're, you know, playing the game live, but again, maybe he's got a track record of doing this type of hit.

I don't know. Uh, but that's my thought on that. Now let's have a clip of, actually, you know what I wanted to talk about? I made a long video today on YouTube. I received an email from an attorney that explained to me why they think Clayton Eckerd's accuser, Laura Owens is going to lose her appeal. This.

Lawyer who remained anonymous, uh, is retired from Arizona. I think they said they, they started practicing law in the seventies and then they know Arizona law in and out. And they actually surgically described all of the reasons why they think Laura Owens attorney is what they call bootstrapping, you know, sticking to points that are, aren't really points.

And, and he, they, you know, which red herrings he's using to, um, kind of, uh, miss. Communicate why the trial needs an appeal, essentially looking for loopholes where there may not be any, I thought it was very fascinating to hear this all from a lawyer. I read the full letter with this lawyer's approval anonymously on my YouTube channel, but if you're looking to get more Clayton Eckerd info, this lawyer seems to believe that the, uh, that the case will not be, uh, Granted an appeal based on what they know as far as how the Arizona court system works.

So if you're keeping track, that's another lawyer saying, Hey, well, you know, a snowball's chance in hell. Could a snowball exist in hell? Well, a snowball's chance in hell would say Maybe very unlikely, and it seems as though, um, uh, Laura Owens snowballs chance in hell is already starting to melt. We'll have to see.

Uh, Clayton Eckerside hasn't even offered a response yet. So we're really not too sure what's going to happen with the appeal. We'll have to wait for his response before it goes anywhere. And speaking of not going anywhere, here's a tic tac for you that didn't need to be shared, but I found it pretty funny from bachelorette, Jen Tran saying that her partner, Sasha smelled like, uh, one of her exes from the show, have a listen.

Oh, what's crazy today, Sasha and I went to Sephora. And he went to his own cologne aisle and to my perfume aisle and then we were dancing earlier in the living room and suddenly I was just getting all these flashbacks of The Bachelorette like, what is going on? And then I realized I was like, the set that he was wearing was so familiar and I was Did you try a new cologne?

And he was like, yeah, it's whatever. What was it? What was it? Well, he said something and I was like, okay. Um, but then I kept sniffing it and I was like, Oh my God, I'm sniffing Sam M right now. So, the audience of, you know, Bachelor Nation, we're looking at this going like, why are you sharing this? So, she's, and again, I think it's harmless, I think it's fun, but uh, it's also funny that her, you know, Partner, at least the guy who we assume she's dating Sasha.

She's sleeping at his place or they're hanging out on the couch together. And she's mentioning how, Oh, you smell like the guy I dated on TV again. I don't know. I don't think it's a big deal, but there it is folks. All right. So anyhow, we've made it to the end. There's actually a couple of stories. We didn't get to just so much going on here.

We can barely fit it all in. Uh, but Hey, can you believe it? The, uh, Christmas season is rolling right along. Uh, my wife and. Baby and myself will be hunting for a Christmas tree today. Our first Tennessee Christmas tree. We'll have to see if we go find one. I'll give you all those updates on Instagram at D Neils.

And Hey, if you're behind on content, we had that great episode over the weekend and our special Thanksgiving episode, which is a little bit more evergreen. As we discussed kind of a lot of the bigger ticket items going on in our community, and if you really want to know the behind the scenes of what we're planning to do for Thanksgiving.
