Welcome to the rush hour, your daily dose of pop culture for your rush hour ride. Buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host, stand up comedian, Dave Neal. Good afternoon, everybody on this hump day. It's Wednesday, December 11th, 2024, two weeks till Christmas, but we got all your news here in one place.

I've got an update on the missing kayaker who police say faked his own death. He's back in the U S he's in Wisconsin. He's in jail. All of that story. Plus Elton John named times icon of the year and Travis Kelsey dishes about going to Taylor Swift's final show on her arrows tour on his new heights podcast, I'll share a clip of that and breaking news, sadly, bachelor golden bachelor, Gary Turner has cancer.

We'll discuss all he had to say in why they may have sped up the divorce. Plus, of course, more updates on suspected assassin Luigi Mangione, partial fingerprints place him at the crime scene. So says, uh, detectives. Meanwhile, his attorney still says we have not seen any evidence that he is guilty. Not to mention hypocrisy will be shared of Joe Rogan.

Based on his thoughts, uh, on the shooting, what he has to say about the American health care system. And while it doesn't really line up with some other things he endorses, plus a wild Clayton Eckerd case update, uh, his, uh, accuser's attorney doubling down, causing more issues for his client. I've got that story and so much more, and it's all coming up next on The Rush.

So we covered this story a few weeks back, a kayaker was thought to be dead. What, uh, ended up turning up in a like Eastern European country. And then a video evidence showed him being interviewed by a YouTuber, uh, claiming that he was prepared to fake his own death and leave his family to go pursue a new life.

So anyhow, they found him. And I guess he's back in the United States. Here's the update from CBS. Good morning, America. A missing kayaker who police say faked his own death is now in custody in Wisconsin. The online records show that 44 year old Ryan Borgwart is in jail outside Milwaukee now. Now you may remember that crews searched for him for nearly four months after he failed to come home from a kayaking trip back in August.

But last month, officials say they believe he wasn't dead. And he was, in fact, alive, living somewhere in Eastern Europe. Last month, a father of three came clean in a video message describing how he did, in fact, fake his own death. So he could leave his family and start a new life. Listen, all I'm saying is this, a lot of guys buy a Corvette during their midlife crisis, you know, how dramatic, isn't this funny?

A lot of men accuse women of being overly dramatic, but it's like, Oh, you faked your own death to go pursue what a chick you met on hinge. Get out of here. Get out. So now he's got to pay the price. You should have just bought the car in the first place. All right. Elton John was named icon of the year. All right.

First of all, God bless time magazine and God bless Elton John. As you guys know, our podcast was featured in time magazine. You know, we got a little blurb. It was in the digital version. It really meant nothing. But it's still kind of fun to say, uh, but what are they doing? Participation trophies. It used to be that they had person of the year.

Now they've got athlete of the year icon of the year. I'm sure they're going to have podcaster of the year. Maybe they'll have niche podcaster, a podcaster who does two episodes a day with a niche entertainment news following of the year. Dave Neil. Well, thank you so much for that time magazine. I really appreciate it.

Uh, time magazine is a vestige of the past. I don't mean to, to, to like diss them, but it was so interesting when we were featured in time magazine, it didn't lead to one new person. Like literally nobody ever has said, Dave, you know what? I found your channel by reading time magazine. Like it just doesn't exist.

And yet somehow of all of the. You know, relatively bankrupt magazines. It's holding on. So congrats to time magazine. I'm sure in the next couple of days, we'll, we'll find out who is their person of the year. But as far as icon goes, Elton John, you deserve it. You are, uh, you're, I mean, who doesn't love Elton John really?

Um, well, here's a good story. Uh, a fifth person was confirmed to be cured of HIV. The Dusseldorf patient is latest to be rid of HIV with no signs of return. Uh, they're calling it the Dusseldorf patient, uh, to protect his privacy. Researchers say he is the fifth confirmed case. Details of his successful treatment first announced at a conference in 2019.

Researchers could not confirm he had been officially cured at that time. Well, I guess five years later, they're like, no, this is it. So again, uh, What that is that led to the curing. I'm not sure, but Hey, this is why you got to invest money into science and medicine, right? Because, you know, it's like, what, what was so devastating for a generation, you know, what was, you know, not even a generation, but for several years, the epidemic, you know, It's like now, and again, it should still be taken seriously, but now it's like, what a difference in time.

All right, well, let's do this. Let's head over to Travis Kelsey. He of course has his hit podcast, new Heights, one of the biggest podcasts out there with his brother, Jason Kelsey. And he gave a nice shout out to Taylor Swift about the ending of her tour. I guess he went to her final show in Canada. Here's what Travis Kelsey had to say.

Oh, Jason, we were spotted in Vancouver for the last stop on the heiress tour. Vancouver. I wasn't in Vancouver. Yeah, you were. Look at that belly and that beard, dude. Oh, what the fuck? You got the stat. I'm not fat. I'm not, that's not what I look like. So it's actually, it's actually what appears to be a lady dressed up as Jason Kelsey there.

Again, this is how iconic Taylor Swift is, is that people don't just dress up as her, they dress up as her boyfriend's older brother. That's it. That's what I look like right now.

Well, shout out to Tay and, uh, the unbelievable heiress tour has finally come to an end. How do, so how, hold on, how long was the heiress tour? It was over two years, almost two years. The heiress tour was so long. This is her third known boyfriend she's had during that tour. March, March, Of the year that we played with many shows.

How many do you know off the top of your head? Uh, 149 or 152. I forget which one it was. Somewhere in there. A fuck time. That's so many shows is kind of how I sum it up. 149 shows in 21 Country. Wow. It's insane. Absolutely insane. Over 10 million people in the stands over the course of it, like cumulatively.

It's pretty crazy. Shout out to Tay. Shout out to everybody that was a part of that show. Obviously it's, it's her, it's her music, her tour and everything, but that, that was a full production, man. That thing. Yeah. Fair enough. It was the best tour in the world because of a lot of people and uh, but mostly because of Taylor.

You know, we shared a clip earlier on the episode this morning about how to be popular and the, the reasoning of how to be popular is that people like you when you like them. And Taylor Swift is a good example of that. She's got that energy where she always makes every single person feel like they are the most important person in the room.

I actually remember seeing a video where she surprised someone at their um, at their, at I don't know if it was their gender reveal party. It might've been their engagement party. It was at this little hole in the wall called Sycamore tavern. It's a place I used to do standup in Los Angeles and there couldn't have been 10 people there.

And she took her time out to kind of like show support for them. And those little things add up over the course of a 10, 20 year career, those little moments where you take care of people. She takes care of her drivers. She tipped what like close to 200 million in tips to her employees and every town she goes to.

She. Crushes their gross domestic products. Uh, hotel chains see a boost when the Taylor Swift is in town. I mean, it is the biggest, uh, it's, it's incredible. So good on her. Well, to go from Travis Kelsey to other football news, kind of sad story. Randy Moss, uh, admitted. The other day that he's going to be stepping down from his broadcast job because he's got health concerns.

Well, I guess Larry Fitzgerald senior claimed that he had liver cancer. Well, now Randy Moss's son refutes the cancer report and calls it disgusting. So Larry Fitzgerald senior said 66, uh, national football hall of fame ceremony here in Las Vegas, just heard that Vikings hall of fame. Randy Moss has liver cancer.

Let's show the power of prayer and pull Moss through. Now, by the way. He means well, but if someone has a medical issue, uh, outing them is kind of like not your place to be like, let them, uh, take ownership of whatever their issue is, if they want to share it. Great. If they don't fine, it's so personal. Well, either way, uh, Randy Moss's son said, no, this is disgusting.

The 26 year old Moss wrote to Fitzgerald senior. You have no right to try to make private matters public for the sake of engagement. I do not believe my father talks to you. So check your effing sources. Uh, and by the way, you know. I don't think the guy meant harm. I just think that like there's a generation where people didn't understand the etiquette of social media.

I think that's what it comes down to. Well, this is a scary story. Mitch McConnell, 82 years old, falls at the U S Capitol more than a year after public freezing episodes. No, I'm no fan of Mitch. You can make your own decisions. He is set to retire, but boy, just a wild out here. You know, if I was one of his grandkids, I'd be like, why the heck does this guy still go to work?

Like, what does he, I understand, you know, you want to do something that provides value out there. But I think it would be of value to Americans if we had a little bit of a younger people making decisions for us out there, just my thoughts. Well, uh, we've got a sad update from Gary Turner, golden bachelor.

He has revealed in people magazine today that he's been diagnosed with cancer. He was diagnosed with a rare bone cancer. It's not curable. Uh, and I don't know how aggressive it is. Uh, but he mentioned that that diagnosis came actually early on in his marriage. And. probably led to, of course, their, the divorce.

He got married to Teresa after meeting on the first season of the golden bachelor. And, uh, then they did not last too long. And my thought on that was, well, he's in Indiana, she's in New Jersey. They plan to move to the Carolinas. And maybe after finding out he had cancer, he realized he just wanted to be closer to family.

And I don't think you can blame the guy. And, you know, you, You can't blame her for not wanting to uproot her family to go to Indiana. So, uh, sad, sad that the relationship didn't work out, but also more sad that Gary's now battling a bone marrow, a bone marrow cancer, but we wish him very well. All right.

Speaking of bachelor and other bachelor news, Clayton Eckert update. I made a video about this, but how fascinating is this in a comment section of his video? Uh, Laura Owens, attorney Jingy. Uh, which is Clayton Eckert's accuser, uh, has said some statements that I guess, I don't know if he's going to regret these or not, but he basically said that Laura never intended in keeping the pregnancy, that being the pregnancy that she claimed to have with Clayton, well, we provided a boatload of information that actually refutes those claims.

It was another example of a major massive slip up by David Gingras, uh, in his attempt to do PR work for his client. The other slip up was admitting that her ultrasound. sound was actually her sister's, which again, she had never publicly admitted in the, and in this case, admitting she never wanted to have the baby, which if you look at any of the evidence, she sued me for an injunction against harassment, uh, saying that, um, my coverage of her was harming her babies.

Why would she care if the babies are being harmed, if she doesn't care about them? You know what I mean? So just wild stuff out there. Um, but again, we, we don't miss any chance to, uh, go public. Cut to, you know, to come out and to really, uh, put him in his place with what we call truth. And, um, he actually responded to someone saying, you need to get your brain out of Dave Neal's rear end, which is like, listen, uh, how, how trivial of him to think that everyone who disagrees with them must have their head up my ass, uh, which again, maybe some of my audience has their head up my ass, but that's fine.

Uh, you know, can you hear the podcast up there? That's all that matters. Well. Thank you. You're welcome. You know, what matters is making sure I pay the bills. Well, I've got a bunch of stories related to the, uh, assassin, uh, alleged assassin. He's got a lawyer. Now, uh, the lawyer is doing a bunch of talking about how are they going to finance this case.

Case, you know, people are wondering, uh, go fund me's have been shut down that have been trying to support Luigi Mangione, which I think is ridiculous. I mean, even if someone seems guilty, they are sort of allowed a fair trial. And if, if, if audience, if, if. The public wants to raise money, uh, for a fair trial.

I don't see why that's a bad thing. Well, his fan base is only growing online. It's a real, you know, we talk about this before, like the Arab spring, a grassroots movement, a movement of the people for cultural change in different ways. It comes in different communities. And right now in the United States, there is a movement of people that are left leaning.

And right leaning and center leaning that are all coming together saying enough is enough. The system is so flawed and it seems as though mainstream media is not really covering that story. Everyone's quick to say that Luigi is this horrible guy and you know, cold blooded murders. Yeah, that is, that is a horrible thing to do.

What comes of that, the conversations that come from this will be, uh, some that will make careers. Of political leaders or ruin them. Same thing with content creators. I mean, you had Josh Shapiro, excuse me, Ben Shapiro, uh, different Shapiro, Ben Shapiro, trying to claim this was a big left wing movement. And then a lot of his audience, right wingers said, no, it's not.

We also have insane healthcare bills. Why can't, as a country, as a middle class, why can't we all come together, use our money to try to have socialized health care? More people agree with that than don't. I feel like a lot of people that don't agree with it is from misinformation. They say, well, I don't want to wait in line for three years to get my knee replaced.

It's like, oh, yeah. Okay. Well, but also do you want to spend a quarter million dollars? Cause you broke an ankle, you know, like not everything is about getting your knee replaced. Sometimes you get sick and you just want to go to the hospital and not wonder if you need a mortgage taken out. You know what I mean?

Either way, here is Luigi Mangione's, uh, new lawyer, uh, talking about fans possibly offering to foot the legal bill. One big question that everyone has is are you being paid by his family to represent him? Yeah, I'm not, I'm not going to comment on that. Well, can you say that it's not his family who is, who is asking you to retain him or to retaining you to represent him?

I'm not going to comment on. By the way, this lawyer, it was a local lawyer. It was it called Latuna, Pennsylvania, is that what it's called? He was a local lawyer there and I think he's practiced for a very long time. It could be that he's doing this for free. I mean, look, it's already getting him on all of the news, and by the way, a little publicity not always a bad thing if he does this case for free and helps out.

You know, he'll get something out of it, which is notoriety in one way or another, uh, depending on, you know, it's, you know, there, there are cases where you look at lawyers and go, Oh, geez, you know, is this an ambulance chaser? Is this somebody who's out for a quick buck? I don't see that here. I see, I see what could be a very, very long trial.

It could also be very quick to be quite honest, depending on the types of evidence that they have. I'm not going to comment on that. Um, that's, uh, I've been retained. I was not court appointed. I've been retained. And that's all I can tell you. We had seen reports earlier that that there was, you know, people were inundating you with, with offers to help pay for his, his legal bills.

Is that accurate? Um, I, uh, I have received some emails. I have not seen them personally, but my understanding from my staff is people are, uh, are doing that. And by the way, who cares, right? Is it, I don't know, is it illegal to take money from strangers? Uh, you know, you guys can give me money. I'll give you my Venmo, it's DNeals, D N E A L Z, just like my Instagram.

No, if you don't have the money, don't send money. My point is, what I'm trying to say is, it ain't illegal to send money. The people are reaching out to you and offering to help pay for his legal bills. That's correct. Do you, would you accept those offers? I mean, I imagine you maybe have, I don't know. Have you ever gotten that before?

Who cares? Nah. Nah, to be honest with you, I probably wouldn't. Why do you think you would not accept them? Oh, geez! I mean, come on. This is a terrible interview. Why are they harping so much on whether the lawyer will take some donations? I don't know. I just, uh, don't. I don't know. I just don't feel comfortable about that.

Um, so I don't know. I haven't given that much thought, but I'm not looking, you know, I mean, I, you know, obviously my client appreciates the support that he has, but I don't know. I just, it, it, I'd have to look in, but it just doesn't sit right with me really. So, so very interesting stuff. Uh, you know, everyone obviously is, is really looking into every angle of, of what will become a very, very big trial.

And by the way, I think on my YouTube, I'm going to start covering some other trials outside of the one I've been covering. One of which is what the hell's, uh, uh, bookmark Friday at. 10 a. m. Central standard time. I think we're going to do a public live stream where we catch up on the, what the hell is coverage.

If you aren't familiar with it, it is a YouTuber who's been in a lawsuit and it's kind of got a lot to do with what I do. So I find it kind of interesting. Um, I don't plan on being like a, you know, you know, a true crime podcaster or whatever, but you know, it's just, it's very interesting how the court system works.

And there's a lot of, uh, good nature to sort of. People discussing it and that we have that right to do that. And we absolutely will be discussing this trial as it happens. Now, there is some evidence that apparently came out. Uh, we'll share that for you next. You know, it's so funny. Some of the information coming out.

Luigi Mangione apparently had a book on his book list called adult children of emotionally immature parents, how to heal from distant rejecting or self involved parents. I think anyone in our generation would love to read that book. Not to say our parents were emotionally immature, but you know, I don't know.

I feel, I, you know, I feel like that's a common struggle to think that the previous generation didn't quite understand you. You know what I mean? So anyway, yeah, they're, they're looking into every aspect of this trial, but what's interesting here is a clip I'm going to share of, I guess this is a law enforcement official confirming that they have found a partial fingerprint match of Luigi Mangione at or near the crime scene.

Have a listen. First positive forensic match that we know of. Walk us through what you've learned. So fingerprints collected at the scene of the Thompson murder, uh, from a plastic water bottle from a discarded cell phone, the so called burner phone. Um, have now been compared. against the arrest fingerprints taken by police in Altoona.

By the way, this guy's voice is just beautiful. And I'll tell you what, um, as far as the conspiracy theories go currently, I think he did it. I don't think the manifesto was planted, although he does say that the cash was planted on him. So again, we'll have, this is going to be very interesting. And will a jury convict.

Of the suspect and. Yesterday they were able to make a match to the prints that they collected at the scene. Not a surprise in some regard, in that they had an individual allegedly with a gun and a silencer and a mask and those things, but it is the first scientific forensic match. Um, that, that joins the growing pile of circumstantial evidence that they can say, well, how else would it be someone if that fingerprint is here and he's there with that gun and so on.

Now, there's more, which is DNA evidence, still pending. Ballistic tests still pending. Um, part of that is because the gun was recovered in Pennsylvania, um, to match that to be the same gun. They would have to, so they're doing all the forensic work, but Hey, listen, uh, the boomers were right. They always said you young generations buying your 6 Starbucks, you shouldn't be doing it.

And it looks like that 6 Starbucks cup may be the thing that pins him to the crime scene. Again, we'll have to see. Well, Supporters of Kim Kardashian are asking her to save Luigi Mangione, get him a pardon. Of course, she has helped a lot of innocent people get off of death row or get their convictions, you know, uh, overturned.

Um, I don't think she'll get involved here, but one user said, uh, that she should represent Luigi Mantone. Luigi X Skims is on the way. So Skims is her lingerie brand and of course, People make funny jokes online, but it just goes to show where the world is and where the country is right now with how fed up people are.

Alright, so let's listen to this clip before we completely dismantle his take. I don't think this guy was a professional. I think this guy If I had to guess some guy got fucked over. Apparently that company is really bad. Mm-hmm . On denying claims. Uh, the 30, 34% denial rate. Something like that. Almost like 16.

Yeah. Yeah. So those guys, I don't think anybody's gonna like be crying too hard over that guy. . Yeah. Maybe it's family, but that's about it. Yeah. It it's a dirty, dirty business. The business of insurance is fucking gross. It's gross. And especially healthcare insurance. Just so. He says healthcare insurance in the business of is effing gross.

Now this might sound political, but it really doesn't mean to me, but Joe Rogan endorsed Donald Trump. Donald Trump said he had concepts of a healthcare plan dating back to 2016 and he recently at the debate said he had concepts of a healthcare plan. We can't forget. The honest truth of what happened, which was that Donald Trump tried to get rid of Obamacare.

Do you remember when John McCain did that big thumbs down after Donald Trump tried to get rid of it? Now what's happened is people realize Obamacare is. Pretty good. It's actually got high approval rating. It could be better, of course, uh, but there's a lot of restrictions to it, which is why a lot of people want Medicare for all, but we can't have this conversation about Joe Rogan saying healthcare, health insurance companies are effing gross, but he's not using his platform to help, uh, you know, pursue, uh, better options, you know, and again, he doesn't have to do that, but I'd be remiss if I didn't discuss the fact that the left and the right, And everyone in between all agree that these healthcare companies stiff us.

They're insurance companies. They are just a middleman, a mob, uh, the mafia run, you know, in the sense that they're making billions and billions in profit, they're designing artificial intelligence to reject everybody's claims. So your grandmother doesn't get the insurance she needs for her chemo so that your son doesn't, you know, gets rejected for whatever it is.

And it's wild. And sadly, someone like Joe Rogan worth hundreds of millions of dollars. He doesn't need health insurance. He can pay cash, whatever the price is. He'll never have to worry about health insurance. Again, you do. I do. I pay 1, 300 a month for my wife, myself, and my baby. Uh, and I don't even go to the doctor.

I haven't been to the doctor once because I paid that 1, 300 a month. And then you got to pay on top of that. And I go, you know what? I'm feeling kind of good. My version of health insurance. If I have a cough is drinking a Celsius energy drink. That's it. So if this sounds political, it doesn't have to be.

You can be part of the revolution. And I can be a part of the revolution, regardless of where we are on our political ideologies, we can come together and say, we want a system that works for us, not makes insurance companies, billions and billions of dollars. What if that's the, uh, sort of revolution in solution that comes from this senseless crime?

I don't know. Just a thought. All right. Well, we'll be back in the morning as we are always. I'll see you then. I'm Dave Neal. This is the rush.
