Welcome to the Rush Hour. Your daily dose of pop culture for your Rush Hour ride. Buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host, stand up comedian Dave Neal. Good afternoon everybody and happy Friday to you. The 22nd of November, 2024. And boy, do we have some dramatic stories to get into? Uh, the first we will cover is an American Idol contestant receiving an eight year prison sentence, five years in jail, three years of home confinement for a fatal DUI.
I'll tell you which contestant, uh, and what a sad story for all involved. Plus Conor McGregor found liable for assault in a case involving a lady. Uh, I'll S I'll share what his. Fiance had to say about that and how he plans to appeal. Also a watch from Travis Kelsey's home robbery was found in Rhode Island.
Now I know what you're thinking, Dave, aren't you from Rhode Island? Yes, I am. And don't I love Taylor Swift? Yes, I do. But I didn't steal Travis Kelsey's watch. Although we're going to get down to who did it. And also Jason Kelsey, his older brother announced a late night. TV gig and an odd, this is a very bizarre story.
Henry Winkler, the Fonz put a stop to his daughter going on the Bachelorette. So I guess no, uh, Fonzette on the Bachelorette, uh, I'll share those stories and so much more coming up to you next on the rush. Today's episode is coming out an hour or so late. Uh, that that's because I was actually interviewing my new guest for tomorrow's episode of the rush hour podcast.
I just interviewed Susie, uh, Abro might, uh, Susie is ranked 14th on Hallmark's, uh, Queens of the Hallmark channel. She's been in several Christmas movies. She Netflix comic. Book show and has so much else going on. So fun. What a great interview. So make sure to check that out tomorrow here on the rush.
It'll also be available on video form on my YouTube channel, the Dave Neal show. She actually shared a very interesting story about her house burning down and how she ended up staying in the guest room of Ben Affleck's home. Very interesting stuff. Uh, we are now one degree separated from Ben Affleck.
All right, folks. So let's get into the news. Henry Winkler starts it off. Uh, what does he have against the bachelorette? He says no reality TV for my daughter. And again, no offense, but it's like, did your daughter want to go? Like, were they, were they? Knocking her door down to be the next bachelorette, or was he just doing a hard pass on it?
Cause I could say, Oh, I'll never go on survivor, but it's not like they're asking me, although I would go on survivor. All right. Here's what he had to say regarding, uh, no, uh, no happy days as far as going on reality TV. Do you remember when I was in the running to be the bachelorette? Oh my God. Goodness.
And we put a stop to that. You sure did. And then I was asked, which we didn't even talk about your protection because we put a stop to that. No fantasy suites for my daughter, not on my watch and even talk about, um, no, not aha. How about thank you. We didn't talk about also, and I forgot to talk about this with Kim, but originally, Before like so long ago, there wasn't even that much reality TV out.
It was just the real world. And me, Kim and Sarah Howard were asked to be on a show called Quarter Life Crisis. Right. And I'll never forget Matt Hanna. He worked at VH1 at the time. He flew out to LA and did a sizzle reel of us. Right. And I don't even think like I mentioned it to you. And then I was living at home at the time because I was just done with college.
I believe it was at this house that we're in right now. Yes, he came to the house. And you met him outside. I did. And what did you say to him? I said, it is so lovely that you're here. I can suggest some really good restaurants. My daughter is not doing your show. That's correct. And then this is a crazy story.
Well, obviously it worked out for Kim cause she went on to become the most famous person in the world. But I became a teacher, which was a the best job and what I always truly wanted to do. And I went to visit you in your class, um, several times and you were born to do that. It was so not the right thing for you to do in your life.
Um, it would have just perverted. Uh, your trajectory. I really believe that. Yeah. You don't wanna pervert somebody's trajectory. Reality TV is for people that have no future . Okay. And people who cover reality tv. I mean, they're a whole nother breed. I'm talking about me. Alright, Jason. Kelsey's. Oh, we have, we have multiple Kelsey stories.
Here's the first one. Jason Kelsey, uh, had an autograph hound who was yelling at him. Well, it turns out the hound went nuclear on Jason outside Jimmy Kimmel live last night. He was living up to a reputation he's earned in Hollywood. Apparently he just yells at people. I'm going to play what he had to say.
This is what's so sad. A lot of times you only see the celebrity's reaction to things. You don't actually get to see sort of the vitriol that people have to deal with all so that he could, what get a reaction out of the guy, have a listen. Don't do that. We're the king of the streets. People are dying out here.
You're jumping in a car after like a hot shot. Kiss my fucking ass. My whole family died before I made it. So the guy's just yelling at Jason Kelsey and climbing up the wall to get a good video of him. You ain't nobody special. You're some shit bag fucking guy that dicks his ass on a pedestal. Don't be a dick.
Don't be a dick. So anyway, the dude was clearly unhinged, but apparently that's what he does. And look, you're allowed to yell at people. From a public place. You can do that. Um, but, um, sadly, you know, you're not going to get your autograph. I mean, what else can you say about that? Wild stuff. Let's continue with our other Jason Kelsey and Travis Kelsey stories.
So I covered this in the intro, Jason Kelsey coming to late night TV. So the autograph hound was saying you're a nobody, but I mean, the truth is he just signed a hundred million dollar contract for his podcast with his brother. His brothers. Dating the biggest pop star in the world. Jason Kelsey might become uncle Jason Kelsey.
Uh, so I think he's got a lot going on. We'll add to that. Not only a retired professional athlete, but as you see here on Jimmy Kimmel, he's making his late night television debut, announcing his new talk show set for 2025. You got nothing to do for a few days a week now. Well, yeah, I'm actually, I'm busier in a lot of ways than I thought.
You're busier. Oh, you are? Yeah, well, I'm, it's like more decentralized, so it's a lot of like, inefficient busyness. Gotcha. Whereas, you know, every day I went down to the NovaCare complex in South Philly. And worked to get better at football with a bunch of coaches and players and it was awesome and now I'm traveling and now you have a big announcement actually to make do yes, please announce I am starting, I believe it's January 3rd I hope it's January 3rd but we'll be doing a late night show during the postseason on ESPN nice to be airing every Friday.
When I first approached ESPN with potentially working for them, and Monday Night Football was a big part of that, Monday Night Countdown, um, I thought about, you know, I loved late night shows. I've always loved them. I remember, uh, Sleepovers watching Conan O'Brien with my friends. Uh huh saying what are we doing here?
But I love watching Conan O'Brien was the best because he was on after the tonight show So it'd be really late at night and he would say things he was so irreverent. I mean, ah, honestly, I were Jason Kelsey and I were part of that same generation of dudes who you didn't have many options You know you had late night TV.
You had yet Conan O'Brien or Craig Ferguson was and I think For me, the biggest thing that players say they miss when they leave the sport is being around the guys. Is, is, is the locker room, is the banter. Showering with men. I, I mean, listen, that's where half of the good stuff comes from, for sure. And, you know, being able to have this, you know, this, this show where we're gonna have a bunch of guys up there, legends of the game, friends that I played the game with, coaches.
Celebrities while also incorporating NFL films who's going to be a part of it Uh, we have a live band snack time being able to play some of these iconic nfl songs And it's going to be in philadelphia in philadelphia In front of a big audience and you're gonna and it's good audience. Yeah Yeah, that sounds like a lot.
I think that's a great idea. I think you're going to do very well with that. I agree too. I mean, you know, it just goes to show the camaraderie, like that's all we need in life. That, that group of friends that you can hang out with, you get that on the football field, you get that in, you know, in real life.
You don't always have the chance to have that. And you got to kind of sort of fabricate it. You got to join intramural sports leagues, or, you know, you got to do different things to make that happen. I'm so lucky with standup comedy that I have that to an extent with a lot of my comedian friends, just a chance to shoot the shit.
And it's kind of like therapy. So I don't know if you have that in your life, but just know if something doesn't feel right, go take a yoga class, go. Out and try to meet people. Don't go within because that's where all of the enemies come from. Right? Like, like inside our brains. So just try to find a way to be a part of community.
Okay. We got the Jason Kelsey stories done. Let's do Travis Kelsey next. All right, here it is. As promised, a report is being made on ABC news that Travis Kelsey's watch was found in Rhode Island following burglary. Uh, it was reportedly recovered nearly 1400 miles from his home with authorities hunting down the time piece amid an investigation into the Kansas.
City Chiefs superstars recent break in ABC News reporting that it was found in Providence, Rhode Island as officials try to get to the bottom of a slew of burglaries. Uh, this is bad. I hope it's not a new England Patriots fan as a new England Patriots fan myself. I really hope a mass hole didn't go over there and start stealing their stuff.
According to police documents, 20, 000 was reported missing following the break in, which literally could be two watches when it's like a nice watch or one watch. Um, so anyway, the FBI is assisting on the case. Interesting stuff. All right. Well, I have an update on the Clayton Eckerd of the Jane Delora Owens paternity scandal.
Uh, Laura Owens attorney, I guess, is trying to butter up to reality. Steve and I made a quick video where he, uh, I guess was thanking Steve for his fair coverage. Look, I've always said this about reality. Steve, if there's one thing that David Gingras and I can agree on is that reality, Steve has very fair coverage.
Wait, he'll give you his point of view. He might, you know, him and I. We'll think differently about certain things, you know, with regards to our opinions on a specific villain or, you know, whatever, when it comes to the nitty gritty of the bachelor. But when it comes down to it from a like a wide viewpoint, Steve is super fair.
Which is interesting because he has blasted Laura Owens because she sent him a fake ultrasound, which she then later denied. So we have, uh, essentially a three and a half minute love letter from David Gingras to reality. Steve, I'll just play a quick clip. After listening to that, I feel like I'm just the most misunderstood person, which isn't hard to believe because there's kind of an army of people, uh, trying to help spread misimpressions about me.
And by the way, I don't think he's misunderstood. I think there's different layers to people. So, David Gingras has attached himself to Laura Owens, who has been a serial liar. Uh, she's lied about a lot of things. Ovarian cancer, faked ultrasounds, lied to me about HCG tests, and all these things. Because he's doing Laura's bidding as her attorney, he's been slamming me and trying to threaten me and things like that.
What he probably doesn't realize is folks like Reality Steve, myself, Omar, uh, Rachel Juarez, Uh, who just started covering the case, uh, which is the video that he's reacting to the podcast Steve did with Rachel Juarez, who's, um, from, what's it called? Hot Benches? Is that what it's called? Uh, either way, we all come, we all have our success in part because we're relatively impartial.
We bring the news to people. Then we share our opinions on the news. That's how it works. So it's not that people have the wrong impressions of David Gingras. It's that he's grading and divisive when he's defending his client. I bet you. If I put everything else aside and I met him at an airport lounge and we were getting chicken wings, I bet you him and I have a bunch of stuff in common and we would have a perfectly fine conversation.
That's what's so interesting. So he had this tweet thread with reality Steve saying, Oh, I want to get on the phone with you. It's like, look, no, no one's doubting whether or not you could be charming. Everyone's looking at all the times you threatened me. And, and my pregnant wife at the time, and I've now brought my son into the conversation, my six month old son.
So it's not that you're unlikable for any mistakes people have about you. It's that they're judging you for how you handled a situation. I mean, a real botched job. Anyway, long story short, I got to get my niece. I just, okay. So then he goes into other things. But either way, I'm not here to steal his content.
I'm providing a very fair, uh, updates to what he's saying that look, I know don't get me wrong. Are there accounts online that are going to hate him and be mean to him and things like that? Yeah, sure. Those are going to exist, but. It's hilarious how his constant attempts to paint me as something that I'm not, are not being accepted by literally anybody.
And we're talking about tens of thousands of people who have all followed this case. You're like, bro, you got Dave Neal wrong. And that's okay. I don't need to defend myself. I've got the army of people that are out there. So his only response to that is, I guess, I guess calling me, um, you know, a cult leader or whatever he wants to say, it's just funny.
So we'll always be here to continue to recorrect whatever misstatements or ideas he has about why he's not liked. Again, he could come off quite charming. He could have a successful career on YouTube. What he's going to have to do is stop trying to sue people for content violations and. In things like that and do his clients bid bidding, he can create his own job, uh, working for himself on YouTube and he could be quite likable.
It's not too late, David Gingras, uh, it's just that you've attached yourself to the sort of, um, lies of your client and when the truth is smacked in your face, you dodge all of the hard conversations. All right, well, speaking about, um, uh, fraud, Jussie Smollett, uh, should admit, uh, his guilt, say the brothers who, who he hired.
So the Asundaro brothers, the two men who helped Jussie Smollett stage his hate crime hoax say they were taken aback, not by his conviction being overturned, but because he never copped to what he did. His conviction was overturned because the prosecutors initially offered him a plea deal and then rescinded that deal.
So that's why his conviction was overturned, not because he's innocent. Here's what they had to say on Fox news. Your thought about this decision from the courts. We were taken aback initially, not because of the Supreme Court's decision, but because Jussie never admitted guilt. We understand that he has due process rights and double jeopardy shouldn't, and is not allowed in America.
However, Jussie should have admitted guilt and, um, that's, that's where we stand. So, the real injustice here was the sweetheart deal he was given by Kim Foxx's office at the beginning of all this. He did a network, he did all these network interviews. He said how white MAGA people are out to kill him because he was gay and black.
We're in the middle of the George Floyd riots. This was a blowtorch, uh, to blow up American society and further that cause. And make him more famous. That's the big deal, isn't it? Yes, it is a big deal. And the problem is If it was a regular smol joe, John Doe or Ola Oshundairo, he would not get that deal.
Jesse got that deal because he has influence and power. So it shows that there are two different citizens in America, one with power and one without. And that's why he got that sweet, a sweetheart deal. Now, look, I don't know all the details of this case, but, um, Uh, I mean, he was convicted, uh, with, you know, a fair trial.
The only thing that wasn't fair is that because of the plea deal, I guess they took back the conviction. So these are the two guys that he hired and say he staged it. And they've, I think they've got the financial receipts to the whole thing. I mean, I don't think there's really anyone. That believe, uh, that, that believed Jussie Smollett at this point.
I could be wrong, uh, but either way, hard not to see the similarities between that and the, uh, Laura Owens case when it comes down to sort of like fabricating victimhood, uh, well, we've got wicked being released this weekend and they're doing a great job with some viral promotions. Uh, wicked is defying expectations.
Movie blows fans away. The premiere on Broadway was 20 years ago, but it seems the team behind the found a way to shock diehard fans, people are posting videos of their friends losing their minds. Uh, so yeah, there's a video I just watched it and it was like the audience reaction of a simple moment. And what you see is you see down the pipeline of like, uh, eight or so people in the movie theater and each person at a different moment It has that, Oh my gosh moment where they realize something's going on.
So I don't know what they're reacting to, but I have to say, I'm not a big movie theater guy anymore, especially with a baby, but I for sure, for sure, we'll be checking this movie out in one way or another when it comes out streaming. I'm just going to have to wait until then. Uh, Ariana Grande did offer her fans an emotional.
Thank you though. What a wild movie. I mean, it really broke up her engagement in her now partner's marriage. She said to my sweet, sweet fans, I'm feeling incredibly emotional today. Who's surprised? And I wanted to just thank you from the bottom of my heart. And then she posted this long, you know, post saying, I'll see you guys at the theater.
So that seems like it'll be the big movie of the Christmas season. And, uh, you know, good for her. Well, here's a sad story. American Idol's Caleb Kennedy, do you remember him? He received an eight year prison sentence for a fatal DUI crash. The former American Idol finalist, who was arrested after a fatal DUI crash in 2022, was sentenced to eight years, TMZ has confirmed.
I didn't know He was, I didn't know this happened, but I mean, he is so young right now. He appeared on season 19 of the hit singing show pled guilty to a felony driving under the influence where death results charge earlier this week. It'll pay a fine of just more than 15, 000. The 20 year old singer will serve five years behind bars before serving the next three years in home detention.
He's required to serve five years of probation after his release. I mean, look. This is terrible. Um, he drove his 2011 Ford pickup truck into a building, killing an unsuspected man inside. I mean, this is literally worst case scenario, right? Worst case scenario for somebody. Uh, authorities allegedly, uh, alleged he took hits from a weed pen before getting into the car.
Um, so he was kicked off of American Idol after video surfaced of him sitting next to someone wearing a KKK like hood. Now what's heartbreaking is he was just a teenager. So, you know, you could say, Oh, this is a horrible person. And like, I understand that. I understand that. But, um, but at the same time to have your life.
And again, I don't, I don't know of a different. I don't know if a different outcome. I mean, someone was killed. Like there needs to be a consequence to that. It's just really a bummer that someone could be so talented and at such a young age, not have the guidance to maybe, I don't know, avoid such obvious like situations, you know, just a real, real tragedy.
If you ask me. All right. Well, speaking of tragedy, I got the results for the Conor McGregor, a civil rape case, and it's not looking good for him. We'll have that story for you next. Well, this is an obvious, like, tough story to cover because it's very sensitive, but Conor McGregor has lost his civil rape case in Ireland.
A jury just found him liable for assault. The case had been going on all month long, after Nikita, uh, Nee Lambhan, Claimed McGregor and another man had sex with her against her will after a 2018 Christmas party. Um, she alleged the UFC superstar picked her and her friend up following the holiday get together and took them to a hotel.
I'm not gonna get into all the details, uh, but, uh, McGregor, uh, had adamantly denied the allegations with a 36 year old fighter. The 36 year old fighter claimed their encounter was entirely consensual. Jurors in the case clearly didn't believe McGregor's side of the story and awarded her roughly 250, 000 in damages.
In their ruling, they did state they found that Lawrence did not assault the woman. Uh, I guess that was the other person that McGregor was with. He showed up to Friday's proceedings with his longtime partner Dee Devlin by his side who was in the courtroom as the verdict was announced. Uh, no comment from Conor McGregor as he leaves court to a media fury.
Um, here's what, uh, his accuser had to say.
I'm overwhelmed and touched by the support I have received from everybody. First, I want to thank the Coleman legal team and my three barristers, John Gordon, Ray Boland and Sean. They have been amazing from start to finish. I want to thank Mr. Justice Alexander Owens. So she goes on and thanks people and she's incredibly grateful for everyone's support.
Uh, well, I mean, I guess it's going to go to appeal, but here's the deal. Like Conor McGregor's got the money. So, uh, we'll have to see how that appeal goes, but he has been found guilty. Uh, it's a sad story. I mean, I hate to cover these things, but boy, is it a big story? He's one of the biggest fighters in the world.
I guess we'll end with this here. We've got an actual, probably our final clip of the Mike Tyson fight. Here is Logan Paul, uh, asking Jake Paul to respond to people who called the fight rigged. Some people were disappointed in Mike's performance. They thought Mike would give more because you see these videos of him going crazy hard on those pads doing that shit.
Yep. And people are like, Oh, it's rigged because look at him on the pads, but he didn't do this in the fight because someone is fucking punching back. You dumb fucks. Like people don't realize my power and my jab and my speed and my ability and my footwork to get out of the way of those punches. So then all of a sudden he's throwing at.
Literally air. He can't land those punches on me. Was he hard to hit? He was, he was hard to hit. He was elusive. I mean, there it is. He was, yeah, he was hard to hit an elusive man. I mean, look, I would have loved the Mike Tyson fight to end a little differently in the end. I don't think it, I don't think it was rigged, but by all means people, when they're breaking down the fight and they just see moments where he didn't take the shots that he would have normally knocked people out with it.
It's like, look, he's lost a step. He's 58. What can you do? Uh, we all lose. But, uh, we're still here. We're still chugging along folks. Listen, it was a wild week. I want to thank everyone who checked out today's YouTube live stream. I took voicemails from everybody, which was a ton of fun. I do want to start, and maybe this will be a project for 2025.
I do want to start voicemails up here on the podcast and give you guys the voicemail number. And maybe, maybe try to do that on like Sunday episodes, like people that just want to call in. And talk. That's what is so good about the podcast. It might be me on one side of the phone, just talking to you, but it really is just like a group phone call.
That's all the podcast is. It is so simple. And yet I think it's so rewarding to society to find people that you can hang out with. I've always said, I just want to be, uh, someone who can, you know, accompany you on the bus stop. I remember my first job out of college, I was working in advertising. And I used to have to take a bus to work.
I lived in a weird part of Alston, uh, Massachusetts, which is a suburb of Boston, and I had to take a bus through Harvard to then take the green line or the T, whatever the hell it's called. And I just remember it would spend. I would spend, and this was before the world of podcasting really existed, uh, and I would spend so much time kind of sitting around being bored out of my mind.
What I would have given to have someone's podcast to listen to, uh, in, in those moments where you're getting from A to B, that's what it's all about here. I am not here. To be your best friend. I'm just here to get you from a to B and did I get you home from work? I hope so. Don't forget over the weekend and check out my interview with Susie.
Um, you're going to love that conversation. Susie Abra might, it's going to be fantastic, but if you're new here, I got to remind you just the week's fly by so fast, but on Friday afternoons, what we do is we put our middle fingers up. As we walk out of work, we tell our boss to go fuck themselves. I'm Dave Neal.
