Happy hump day T on this October 16th, 2024. I've got all of your entertainment and pop culture news in one place. And on today's morning rush, we've got a recap of last night's.

Dancing with the Stars, an emotional dance by Derek Hough and a surprise exit for Brooks Nader. Plus, a Grey's Anatomy writer apologizes for lying about having cancer. Sound familiar? Well, it shouldn't, because in the Bachelor Clayton case, his accuser lied about having cancer but never apologized. We'll share the difference here.

Also, updates on Lieutenant Dan in Florida. The feel good story continues to spiral south. In the meantime Man arrested for having a loaded gun and phony passports outside a Trump rally says he was framed. We'll share what he has to say. I got all these stories and more coming up next on the morning rush.

I actually wanted to talk about this on our last episode, but we ran out of time. Joker, the new Joker movie, it bombed in the box office and it's set to lose 150 to 200 million in its theatrical run, uh, after, I guess, uh, not getting the love at first sight. thought it was going to get. It was primed to be another twisted comic book smash.

Instead, the sequel to 2019 billion dollar hit Joker is a box office disaster. The offbeat musical about Batman's notorious foe has grossed 51 million domestically and 165 million globally after two weeks of release. By comparison, the first Joker generated 96. 2 million domestically. So look, I mean, what are you going to do?

It didn't do well. Tim Dillon, a famous comedian, had this to say about the new movie. I'm grateful to have sat in a trailer for three months and been a small part of probably the worst film ever made. Arguably the worst film ever on a, on a screen where people are walking out of this film. I saw it in Laguna beach.

I was in California and I was watching it and people were walking out of the theater, confused, befuddled. Angry. Why? Why did you do this? I had a nice little scene. In fact, I missed my scene. I was talking. I was texting on the phone about how bad this movie is. There you go. Show the people. I was texting on the phone about how atrocious the film is.

I missed my scene. I did. I mean, you know, the movie's not good if you're in it and you're still saying, yeah, it's not good. Even see it. And I just walked out and looked at the beach. Do you know that when my agents called me to put me in this, they told me it was going to be a big deal for me. Oh, it's going to be a big disco.

Open up doors for you. It's going to open up doors. The only door it opened up is the door in the Laguna Beach movie theater when everybody walked the fuck out. That's the door it opened up. And people, I was hiding. A few people, I don't get recognized all the time, but every now and then somebody will recognize me.

I was hiding like Diddy in that theater trying to get out. Somebody went, Tim Dillon, you were in that. You were good. And I went, it was terrible. They went, it was terrible. And I just ran to my car. There it is. I mean, Hey, they can't all be hits. You know what I mean? So yeah, I guess Joker, if you didn't like the second Joker, just go back and rewatch the first one.

Well, here's an interesting story for you. We covered this the other day. A New York Jets coach, Robert Sala, was fired. Well, now Bill Belichick is ripping the Jets owner after firing him because he of course worked for the New York Jets for one day. Uh, you might not know this, uh, but yes, that's right. The head coach of the New England Patriots, the most winning or one of the most winning coaches of all time.

One of the greatest coaches of all time, Bill Belichick. Uh, was hired by the New York Jets as the head coach and he resigned on a cocktail napkin that read, I resign as H. C. of the N. Y. J. Right on his face. Hey, look, Peyton, I was the head coach of the Jets twice. I was the head coach before Parcells came there and I was the head coach after Bill resigned.

Undefeated, unscored on, alright? My career as a coach of the Jets is over. It's unblemished. Unblemished, well, I tell you what, uh, Robert Sala's coaching of the Jets is not unblemished. So he was fired, but here's the deal. He still has to get paid for the next two years. And, uh, just so you guys know, Robert Sala is going to be getting paid 800 an hour.

The equivalent of 20, 000 a day. Uh, and I guess that comes out to half a million dollars a month, uh, because they didn't want to hire them, but they didn't want to keep them. Did I do the math? Right? The point is it's a lot of money when you fire somebody, I guess you still got to pay them. Who knew? Uh, well, okay, let's go to a rather Serious and bizarre story.

This was being billed as the possible third assassination attempt on Donald Trump over the weekend, uh, where someone was found with multiple passports and loaded weapons outside of Trump rally while news nation interviewed that man, his name's Vem Miller. He's a Los Angeles man arrested Saturday for possessing multiple guns and fake press passes outside of a campaign rally for former President Donald Trump.

Well, he says he's being framed. Have a listen. Why did you bring these weapons, including a loaded handgun? The fake passports, what you, I imagine, will say is not, uh, fake, uh, press credentials, but a fake driver's license, all to this rally. You could understand why people would say that's strange and why you needed to be detained.

So those are all false allegations. I didn't have fake passports, they were valid passports, I didn't have fake IDs, that's a false accusation. But are you saying all the, this is being reported by multiple agencies, including from the sheriff's office. You're saying everybody's getting it wrong about what happened?

Uh, the FBI and Secret Service have come out and said that I was no threat, they saw no threat, so they've been very clear. There's a difference though. There's a difference between you not being a threat, you not being an attempted assassin, versus you having illegally possessing weapons and having these faked documentation.

Are you saying that part is not true? That is 100 percent false. The Sheriff's office is lying and they're about to get hit with a lawsuit. The Sheriff is going to be investigated, he's going to lose his position. The Deputy Sheriff that, uh, Was part of this, is going to be investigated, is going to lose his position, there's going to be a massive lawsuit.

They always say there's going to be a massive lawsuit and then you never hear anything, but I vow to cover it if this is the case of some weird conspiracy. All right, well, speaking of sad news here, uh, Hurricane Milton, of course, hit Florida and there was just some bizarre stories, one of which, uh, body cam footage, uh, showed police Showing up to the scene, I guess, of a dog that was chained to a fence.

It was abandoned. Well, governor DeSantis, I guess, found out who that was that did that. And they're going to charge this man. One of the issues that we saw happen was we had somebody decide as hurricane Milton approached. that it would somehow be a good thing to take his dog and chain it to a post on the interstate.

Well, um, we had, um, uh, a florida highway patrol, uh, with us here today. Um, that that saw that that dog in distress dog was very rattled from that experience, uh, rescued the dog. The dogs now in Tallahassee, it will be adopted, uh, renamed trooper. But we said at the time, You don't just tie up a dog and have them out there for a storm.

Totally unacceptable and we're going to hold you accountable while I'm proud to announce that, um, uh, the authorities have identified the dog's former owners. And state attorney Susie Lopez is now pursuing animal cruelty charges against the individual. So I mean, I just, I just, first of all, saying he's proud to announce his bizarre, cause there's a lot of other big issues to deal with.

But you know, after a hurricane, it makes people do weird things. People price gouge. There's just like, you know, but obviously it's like, in what scenario was chaining him? I mean, you know, could you say, well, they were going to drive across town in the. Didn't want him to run away, but he wasn't safe at home.

Like I, I just can't, I can't understand. Uh, we'll see if they provide any defense to that. Well, speaking of strange and sad news out of Hurricane Milton, we covered Lieutenant Dan, this guy, uh, Joe C he of course went viral because he was riding the storm out in his boat, which is, you know, good news. But there was a guy named Terrence that he goes by Tampa Terrence and he started a GoFundMe for this guy, Joe, AKA Lieutenant Dan, and he really put him on the map.

map. Well, Tampa Terrence wants people to ask for a refund on the GoFundMe because he doesn't want to be involved with Lieutenant Dan anymore. Uh, I guess he gave Lieutenant Dan around 7, 000 of the 40, 000 that happened that came out of the GoFundMe. Uh, but the funds weren't fully accessed yet. And Lieutenant Dan thought he was getting ripped off.

It could just be a case of Lieutenant Dan being very paranoid, you know, having been unhoused and living on the streets and living on the waters. Uh, not that, you know, he's not homeless now. He's got a boat, but he was in and out of homeless shelters and in, uh, the prison, it could just be a sad case of him being very paranoid, but either way, Tampa, Terrence wants nothing to do with them.

Here's a statement he released. Um, part of me just wants to refund every single person. Now this guy's part of me just wants a refund at all, but since I already gave him the 7, 000, I just got a phone call from me and they said, um, if I refund all the money, then. If the 7, 000 is gonna have to be included and then like I would have to cover the 7, 000 and I don't want to give that guy any more money that I already have and I just don't want to be involved in this GoFundMe anymore.

I don't want to go over there and talk to him. But like part of me feels like he should get the GoFundMe money. I mean, if you guys gave to the GoFundMe and You want your money back? Please request a refund on GoFundMe. That's like the best way to do it. I don't want anything to do with him anymore. I don't even want to go over there and talk to him.

I don't want to give him any more money. Very sad stuff folks, but you know, you can vote with your dollar, do whatever the hell you want. Look, I mean, You know, the guy, the guy probably needs help in one way or another, but, uh, not Tampa Terrance, but, uh, Lieutenant Dan, but either way, you know, it's, uh, it's a product of the times we're in where there's a lot of desperation.

And when you get the internet involved, people get a taste of that fame and it makes them do weird things. Well, all right. Well, I'll tell you what, let's reset. This was some good news. We'll talk dancing with the stars when we come back right after this. How amazing was Dancing with the Stars last night?

If you, if you don't watch the show and have never watched it, I say give it a shot. You know what I love about the show? Uh, you got celebrities that have, uh, you know, or people that have, they're influential, they made money, they've done different things in the world of, uh, entertainment, and then they come into the world of dance, and they are very quickly humbled because it's, Dancing's very hard and it really, it really gives us all something to root for when we watch the show.

It's kind of like watching special forces, but for the ballroom, right? What I love so much about this season is you have several cast members that were Olympians in this year's Paris Olympics, Steven Nadorozik, and then Alona Maher, she's a, he's a pommel horse guy. So for his dance today, he did the pot or last night he did the pommel horse to start the dance.

I mean, people went absolutely crazy for this guy in Alona. She had a beautiful. She's a rugby star. So for them, you know, being physical is a little bit different than the finesse needed in the ballroom. But the story of the night was Derek Hough of Kent. You know, he's, of course, a longtime professional dancer, and now he's a judge.

Well, he recalled the moment that he learned his wife Haley was pregnant. Was essentially dying ahead of her return to Dancing with the Stars. It was a year ago. They were on the Dancing with the Stars live tour. She was supposed to go out and do a dance with him, but she was actually backstage having a seizure.

They needed to remove a large part of her skull and they said she is just not going to be the same person afterwards. Now it's pretty emotional for me because. One of my best friends died of a stroke, which, um, you know, they had to remove part of his brain to reduce the swelling and they kept on giving us worse and worse news until eventually we learned of his passing, you know, but they, you know, whenever someone has a stroke or something serious with their brain, sometimes they can't speak anymore or walk or honestly just, you know, become a different version of themselves.

So how, you know, petrifying for him to wonder if she's going to a, survive. And even if she does survive, will she even be there spiritually? Will her soul be there? So the whole package, uh, where they showed Derek describing the pain of not knowing what went down was absolutely wild. It was just a year ago.

She had to, you know, start walking again and dancing was out of the question. Well, Derek said, That the doctor said, it's an absolute miracle that she not only survived, but is out there dancing. And not only is she dancing, they had a remarkable dance. I mean, unbelievable, unbelievable to watch people have such control over their body, you know, because obviously you need control of your body to dance, but you need that connection to your soul.

And I think. With a lot of people, there's a disconnect with the connection to the soul. It's, I, I, look at it this way, it's almost like we're trained to be worker bees. We're trained to just go out there, do the nine to five, work for somebody else, don't laugh too much, don't cry too much, don't do whatever.

And we're just like repressed humans. And to see these people just so freely moving their body. I've said this before and I'll say it again. It is, in one way or another, my goal in life to dance like nobody's watching. To be that version of myself that is so free, to just be me. And you know, I actually felt that a few nights ago watching Sam talent.

He is a standup comedian and he wrote a book, a book called running the light. Uh, and, uh, which is a very insane fictional book about standup comedy. Well, he was on stage just being so in the moment that it was just unbelievably Uh, inspiring to watch, to watch somebody's brain work. It's almost like popping the hood on a antique car to see a brain work with someone on stage or to see a brain and body work with someone on the ballroom floor, it just inspires me.

And so when I see. Successful people. And when I see professionals doing what they do, it's, um, I think it's should be something we all strive for. No, it doesn't mean we all need to make our living being dancers, but have you ever taken a dance class or considered it, have you ever considered going out there and, you know, doing improv and being silly and playing and, uh, clowning around as it were?

Everyone in their right mind tells us not to do this, but with automation, with AI, with, uh, with the way the world's going, I think the last kind of, uh, hurdle we'll all have when everything else is provided for us, when we have food that's readily available and you know, whatever, I think it's going to be.

Remembering to play, remembering to clown and be our inner child. So did you abandon that inner child? It's kind of like the movie hook, right? In the movie hook, you've got Peter Pan. It's you, Peter. Yeah, Peter, you know, whatever. He doesn't even know he's Peter Pan. He doesn't believe it. He's lived a serious life and it takes a world of the lost boys to, uh, tell him, you know, no, you can, you can be goofy.

You can be fun. You can be playful. I think that's what having a baby has also helped me with. It's just being goofy, being playful and just being in the moment. So either way, unbelievable episode last night and Brooks Nader. Surprisingly lost. She lost the episode. She of course has this very interesting love affair happening.

Not, not as it's an affair, like they're not in any other relationships, but her partner, um, Gleb, uh, uh, uh, Savchenko, is that his name? He actually said he loved her, uh, whether that's, you know, In a relationship form or whatnot, but they've got tattoos and they were, they were kind of poet poised to, to be finalist or at least top five, top four.

But I think they're there at like the top eight or 10 and they didn't make it look really comes down to this. And I hate to say it. Brooksnader is very attractive and I don't think anyone really. Had a reason to want to root her on, you know, there was no real, you know, it's not like she's older or past her prime.

It's not like that she was overcoming something. She was just a pretty person who's okay. Pretty okay at dance. She wasn't in the bottom. She wasn't in the top. She was just kind of like right there in the. Middle or upper middle of all the dancers or all the professionals. So I don't know. I found it interesting.

I found it very interesting that, um, that, uh, she did not get America's vote. That's for sure. All right. Well, last night in, uh, we had the, I guess what's called the Victoria's secret fashion show. Remember that it happens, uh, every year, although I think they took a few years off, uh, I think, uh, I think people were like, all right, enough of this Victoria's Secret, but it's back and Gigi Hadid is dusting off her wings as the iconic Victoria's Secret fashion show makes its grand return.

Oh, it took a five year break. She's got a little help from none other than Taylor Swift chatting with entertainment tonight while getting glammed up before the show. In New York City Tuesday, Gigi spilled she's got a little something extra planned for the runway. Here's what she had to say. Yeah, there's something, there's something on the runway tonight that um, is, is new for at least me on this runway.

I can't remember if it's ever been done on the BS runway. But there's an aspect to it that I was trained to do by Taylor. Olivia Rodrigo saying, hopefully it's not a hole in the floor. On her tour. I mean that way. In one of her rehearsals she was like, I'm gonna show you how we do this. Did that and now I'm using it tonight.

And I honestly don't know what that is, but when we get a copy of it, we'll let you know. So yeah, you know, this is what's interesting. If there's a demand for the Victoria's Secret fashion show, I say do it. Why did they do not do it for five years? Was it, uh, I guess maybe due to, uh, Victoria's Secret having unrealistic body Uh, body image issues, I guess, I don't know.

I don't know, but it's back and I guess everyone's okay with it. So who knows? Well, Tom Brady is back. Uh, and by back, I mean, not on the playing field, but in the owner's booth, he now owns a piece of the Raiders. Tom Brady released a statement on the news saying he was incredibly humbled and excited to get unanimous approval from the owners.

Football has been part of my entire life growing up in the Bay area. And in so many ways, my football life and journey has come for us. Full circle. Brady said I grew up on the field and it's a blessing to know I'll be involved in the greatest league in the world for the rest of my life. I don't know. I don't know why you'd want to be an owner.

I don't know. It seems stressful to me. Your team starts losing. Everyone's going to hate you. I don't know. Not for me. I'll tell you what I'll tell you this. I have no plans on buying an NFL football team. Well, I can already tell you it's going to be a busy day because we got a lot to get to, and we are running out of time.

So we'll take a quick break. We'll be back with more right after this. Well, the election season is less than three weeks away, but you can vote early, depending on what state you live in, which can be very complicated because different states have different rules. But now they're noticing that Georgia sees records for first day of in person early voting.

Here's a clip from NBC news. I felt a leading, a calling to come in and vote today. And uh, I'm glad I did. It's time for revision. It's time for. Things to really, really improve. So that's why I got here this morning. You know, I did it for my mother, who's of course long dead and her mother and all the women that I grew up with who were so eager to be Americans.

It was such a privilege. I couldn't wait. Uh, I just wanted to avoid any issues that could happen on election day. Um, I figured the lines would be shorter. There it is. Yeah. Vote early and vote often. I think regardless of who you're voting for, it's your civic duty. It's a duty we all have as citizens of the United States.

And hey, congratulations to my son. His passport came in. So if we need to jet out of the country, we now can. There's nothing like getting a passport for a five month old. I'm going to have that vlog coming out later this week, but taking passport photos is so funny. They actually laid him on the ground at a Staples and took five.

It's just, it's just so bizarre. It's like, I mean, he's going to look different in three weeks, but what can you do? All right. Well, very interesting story to get to. Um, and by the way, this afternoon, we'll, whatever we didn't get to now, we'll play more this afternoon, but check this out. Grey's Anatomy writer, Elizabeth Finch apologizes for lying about having cancer.

I trapped myself in an addiction of lies. On the day of the premiere of Peacock's investigative discussion, a docuseries, Anatomy of Lies, which examines the long cancer scam perpetrated by former Grey's Anatomy writer Elizabeth Finch, she has offered something new, a full apology for her actions. In a post on Instagram, she begins by writing, I've given no one any reason to believe a word I say.

I lied about so much things. So many people have been devastated by in real life. I'm sorry. It feels like the smallest words compared to what I've done. Yet they are the truest. Finch goes on to write that in many years since stories in spring of 2022 in the Ankler and Vanity Fair exposed her many lies and revealed her to be a con woman who'd gotten her job on Grey's Anatomy after lying about having chondorosa colitis.

coma, a rare cancer. She has been receiving mental health treatment for nearly three years. Alright, so look, this is an interesting story. The mental health facility is in Arizona. She said, the biggest mistake of my life alongside lying about cancer was saying yes to Jennifer's proposal before I was honest with her.

I guess that proposal, uh, is, uh, they met while they were in treatment together. I don't know. What's the deal is with her. She said she married a woman with whom she felt deeply and truly in love. And then recounts that she fell in love with Jennifer Bayer, a woman she met while they were both in treatment.

Yeah, you shouldn't be meeting women or anyone when you're in treatment for mental health issues. That's probably a bad idea. So it's called anatomy of lies and is directed by Evgenia Peretz and David Shizgale. It paints a damning portrayal of Finch. The three part docu series takes apart all of her lies, especially that she had cancer, a ruse that involved shaving her head and faking chemo treatments and their side effects.

She lied about being sexually harassed by a director on the Vampire Diaries, in which she wrote cleaning up a friend's remains who'd been murdered in the Tree of Life massacre in 2018 and her brother dying by suicide. What the hell is this story? This is crazy. Now we know someone else who lied about cancer.

That being. Laura Owens, the, uh, accuser from bachelor Clayton Eckerd. Now we know she lied because she wrote in emails that are pretended to be a doctor that said she had ovarian cancer to a guy named Mike Marichini. All probably as a ruse, just my guess to keep him dating her. Uh, well, We knew it was fake because we paid money for an investigative expert, really a forensic computer expert to crack open a laptop and confirm that she sent those emails, which she has denied doing.

She's denied it. She has not admitted to it, but it's pretty wild stuff. Well, now her attorney accidentally admits that. ultrasound she had was actually her sister's, which is insane because we know that no one else has ever, even though we knew it was her sister's, uh, there's never been any sort of admission that it was her sister's.

Well, now what's happened is There has been no tweeting in the last three days by her lawyer with regards to this case. So some think the relationship might be on the rocks. Some think that maybe she's ready to fire this guy. Again, I think he's been taking advantage of her for his own fame clout as he tries to make a name for himself in this world and get whatever exposure he can.

But how bizarre would it be if he accidentally. ruins it. I mean, we already knew she was lying about this, but how interesting would it be if this is the thing that kind of ends his relationship with her? Uh, my belief is he's taking advantage of her. I, my belief is he absolutely knows she's lying, but he's trying to hold onto a sliver of her.

Of, uh, you know, a sliver of hope that, uh, he can, I guess, maybe win on appeal or win in the Supreme court and get his name attached to case law. That's my thought. I don't know. We'll have to see. All right. We have so many stories we didn't get into, and I mean so much going on. So stick around with me. I'll be back around 10 AM, maybe 11 AM for our Patreon live stream, which is for the behind the scenes community.

We'll, we'll have a ton to talk about as we prepare more. Content. I'm going to continue talking about this Grey's anatomy, uh, cancer story, and I'm going to relate it back to the Clayton Eckerd case on today's YouTube channel. So stick around for that. And then we'll be back this afternoon. As always, I'm Dave Neal.
