Welcome to the Rush Hour. Your daily dose of pop culture for your Rush Hour ride. Buckle up and enjoy the drive with your host, stand up comedian, Dave Neal. Good morning everybody. Happy October 4th. 14th, 2024 on the morning rush. We've got a wild weekend roundup in bachelor nation, a golden bachelorette contestant addresses allegations against him and a big bachelor breakup.
Also Ashton and Mila consider a move to Europe. Carson Daly says his mental health has been repaired due to a daily cold plunge. And we've got hurricane Milton updates, beaches forming in neighborhoods. Plus Hillary Duff takes matters into her own hands going viral after calling out. paparazzi snapping pictures at her son's soccer match.
I have all these stories and so much more coming up next on the rush. As mentioned, we had several stories pop off this weekend in bachelor nation. One being the breakup announcement between bachelorette star, Jason Tartick and influencer Kat Steyer. Here's what she had to say over the weekend regarding, uh, her new single status.
Okay, so with two back to back hurricanes, I obviously didn't think it was the right time to talk about my personal life. But a lot of you have already guessed, and yes, Jason and I have broken up. Um, it was amicable. It just didn't work. I don't want to talk about it. Just wanted to tell you. I understand that with posting a relationship online, You also have to show this side, uh, after math.
Woo hoo! So fun, I loved it. Um, I just wanted to tell you guys, and it's not love wasted. I feel like sometimes it's so easy to think when a relationship ends that the love was wasted, but love is never wasted. So, that's all I have to say. And, uh, that's the world we live in, where public relationships tend to lead to public announcements when they break up.
Jason added this on his Instagram. I'm sad to share that Kat and I are no longer together. It's fair to say that I love hard with all my heart and fall fast. Sometimes in life that works out and other times it doesn't. This time, it didn't. Cat has brought me so much happiness and light. She brought out parts of me.
I never knew existed. I will forever be grateful for her. And of course, sweet MK. This chapter closes amicably and another opens. I'll be rooting for her happiness. And I also am rooting for mine. Yeah, look, there it is. I mean, Jason, of course, had a public breakup with Caitlin Bristow, and now he had a public one with Cat Stickler.
What is next for, I guess, one of the more eligible bachelors in Bachelor Nation. Only time will tell. Right. Lots of up. Diddy scandal rocking the nation. Uh, here's a story, uh, it's by intouchweekly. com. So who knows if this is of any sort of credibility, Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis considering move to Europe amid Diddy drama had it with Hollywood, they say.
They are back in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, once again, this time with association to Sean Diddy Combs. The drama has them doubting, uh, uh, doubling down on plans to move away from Hollywood and build a new life in Europe. Instead, a source exclusively tells InTouch. The source said this, Ashton's so exasperated that once again he's being dragged through the mud because of his past associations.
First it was Danny Masterson, and now it's Danny Combs. Well, look, I mean, don't blame the city, right? These are just like, uh, you know, uh, Danny Masterson turned out to be a R word. Uh, he was, uh, convicted of, uh, R ing someone. I'm not gonna say that. I'm not gonna say the actual word, you know, it's morning here and let's, uh, ease into this tough conversation.
Right. Um, and, uh, And Diddy of course is accused of terrible things. I mean, Diddy's accused of crazy things. Here's a clip of people that are saying he's actually hired a death penalty lawyer. What's up with that? He hired a death penalty attorney. New York's not a death penalty state. However, he's being charged federally.
In federal cases, they still do have the death penalty. He hasn't been charged with crimes that could bring the death penalty yet, but maybe he anticipates much, much more coming down the pipeline, especially since we have things like Tupac's family hiring lawyers to invest. murder connections potentially between Diddy and Tupac.
That's why people think that maybe he hired this death penalty attorney because he's afraid he might get it. Yikes. I mean, again, who knows? Um, but as far as actions considered, it does feel very clickbaity. This article, uh, the source then says they had such a great time in Europe. And in many ways, the idea of moving there is topping their list right now because they figure it would be such a great place to live and raise their kids with a much more grounded lifestyle.
The only thing stopping them from making the move is work because they do still have a lot of business interests in the U S. So the. Concern is that Europe may be too far away. Yeah. I mean, look, they, you know, Hollywood is where people go to make a name for themselves and it, and it invites, and it is a magnet to a lot of crazies out there.
That's just how it is. There's a lot of crazies out there in Hollywood. Hollywood's more like, and I, you know, an idea rather than an actual place. Now, I mean, it is a place, but I lived there and I was perfectly fine, but you know, Ashton successful. So people attach their name to successful people. I mean, look, you know, you've got like a, whenever, whenever Some crazy person is exposed in Hollywood.
We then share photos of everybody that took a photo with that person and saying, are these people bad too? And it's like, they all had to work with each other. Imagine if we publicized all of the, uh, toxicity in whatever job or culture that exists, um, you know, with other people, you, you, you know, everyone's sick.
CEO probably has skeletons in their closet is what I'm trying to say. Now that doesn't mean it's, it's right. I'm just saying, when you, when you look into the lifestyles of the version of the famous, it's like, uh, you know, they're, they're, uh, as flawed as everybody else is what I'm trying to say. All right.
Well, uh, What a busy weekend for me. I had a standup show Friday night. We had people come from different States. We had Rhode Island there. We had Massachusetts there. We had, uh, uh, Connecticut there. I want to, I want to specifically thank, uh, the, the, the ladies that came out. We had a couple, uh, different ladies come out.
One from someone I actually met in Vegas at Reality Steve's party, uh, but I think someone drove two and a half hours each way to see my show on Friday night, my sold out show. So thank you guys all so much. And yesterday, uh, we had, uh, we'll call her Jay. I don't want to out her name, but we had Jay Uh, checking in on me after I went to church, I went to church to my family and she approached my wife and said, Hey, I watch your husband.
And I get lucky. Luckily Tasha knew what she was talking about and we had a good chat with her and I guess she watches the channel and her sister does too. So big shout out to all of the love we're getting out there. You guys have been absolutely fantastic. I mean, that's what our community is all about.
We are just here to try to bring people together. All right. Well, I did tease briefly a little bit about what's going down in Hollywood. As far as there's a, there's a lot of people that aren't working right now. Here's an update from the Tik TOK account stage runner LA telling us why fewer, fewer than one in five scripted productions are being shot in LA right now.
Hollywood is turning its back on Los Angeles. And now we have the numbers to prove it. Hi, I'm Alex from Pop Culture Brain, and this is Stage Runner, your source for what's shooting and where. We've reported a lot recently about how Hollywood is shooting less and less in Los Angeles these days, instead turning to lucrative, tax friendly places like the UK, Canada, Atlanta, New York, and more.
And now, according to a new report by Film LA, we've got the numbers to back that up. In 2023, Just 18 percent of the biggest scripted shows and movies were made in Los Angeles. That's right. Fewer than one in five Hollywood projects are actually shot in Hollywood. And that's down from 22 percent in 2022 and 23 percent in 2021.
Okay, so the studios are shooting elsewhere. What's the plan? What's the big deal about that? Well, the problem is 27 percent of the industry's workers still live in LA, meaning there isn't enough work where they live to go around, because the studios have now created those job opportunities elsewhere. The good news is the entertainment industry still pumps 43 billion in wages into the California economy.
But Film LA's president, Paul Audley, isn't optimistic, saying, How long can California subsist, or help businesses and families thrive, on an ever thinner slice of a shrinking production pie? And it might not just be California's entertainment industry that suffers as a result of this. It could also hurt the state's entire economy, as Audley explains, We're now at a place where inadequate investment in this industry places other economic supports at risk.
You know, it's kind of like how, you know, the auto industry left Detroit, and, you know, certain industries just, Take over certain, uh, certain cities or, you know, certain factories exist in different places. And Hollywood is not immune to the idea that, uh, markets will move people to different places. You know, I always talk about, don't rent your time out, work for yourself, build equity in yourself, do what you can to not make yourself replaceable, and I'm going to read a nice comment I got from one of you guys, a listener who took my advice.
And we'll have that for you after a quick word from our sponsor. I feel like I've learned a lot about myself when I started making YouTube videos and podcasts. And I learned that I didn't really love Hollywood. What I loved was the connections I was making with people. I hated the audition process because it wouldn't really share my hot, my, my best version of myself.
You know, it felt like being a soup kitchen, like a line, a line at a soup kitchen, right? Because everyone's so desperate for work and the gatekeepers are there and you're at someone else's, uh, you know, a whim and anyhow. So if. Is there ever a chance for anyone out there to take matters into their own hands, work for themselves?
I'm, I'm, I'm always in support of that. Well, I got a comment from one of you guys. She said, I got to say, Dave, I used to get really annoyed with you. I hear you encouraging your viewers to work for themselves. It only bothered me because I was too scared to take the leap. Well, I finally did it as a Friday.
I own my own business and get to spend more time at home with my baby girl. I'm not sure I would have done it without all your encouragement, even though it wasn't directly towards me. And I can't say thank you enough. My response was, Oh, you had it in you. Congrats on all the new opportunities. Isn't it great that everything is working out?
That's the mantra. I like, uh, I'd like to shift the energy to say, isn't it great that everything's working out and whether it be writing your next big book. or taking a leap into whatever small business you want to start. I think we need to live in a world where people take care of themselves because with automation, with the moving around of working from home, and all I'm trying to say is where possible, try to protect yourself and try to grow.
Give yourself all of the opportunities to not have to give your destiny, uh, to someone else's control. All right. A couple updates on the hurricane Milton actually have an uncle in town who lives in the Carolinas and he builds docks. He's a Marina builder. You know, I'd love to interview him one of these days, maybe I'll get him on driving with Dave.
Uh, but he is okay. And his docs all, I think. past the safety test after these crazy hurricanes. Uh, so it's, um, you know, I'm, I'm, I'm happy that he's okay, but I know a lot of families aren't and 16 people are now confirmed dead in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton. And again, it could have been a lot more.
It could always be a lot more. It could always be a lot less to, uh, ABC news, Victor acquainted, acquainted reports from Venice, Florida, where homes are buried in sand. unique. So it looks like I'm standing on a beach right now, but this none of this sand should be here. Milton pushed all of this right this way and this condo here.
It is now Buried in sand. We are talking about feet of sand right here. I also had a chance to speak with the property manager here who tells me that they cleaned it out after Helene two weeks ago. So everything that you see here behind me, that was brought in by Milton. And now I mean the bottom of the roof here, it's at my waist level and I can see right over the roof and that's just in this spot too.
We've had a chance to go around this area in Venice and there was some significant wind damage and destruction to other homes as well. Pretty crazy stuff out there. We'll have a few more updates on the hurricane. Uh, actually a meteorologist is telling a Cuomo on NewsNation that she's receiving death threats for debunking hurricane conspiracy theories regarding the latest misinformation out there.
All right. So Katie says her efforts to debunk the conspiracies. They were met with a death threat, so much so she doesn't want us to reveal which TV station she works for. It's crazy to think you actually received a threat, uh, people are, are they like blaming you for the hurricane? Well, it's interesting because I'm not alone.
Lots of meteorologists are reporting that they're getting these hostile messages, whether they be physical threats, death threats, whatever it may be. And it's tied, I think, to the recency of having two major hurricanes hit the United States. We're a hot button topic right now. And a lot of people are looking for Someone to blame.
And so for me, I'm just trying to be able to get out there and tell people, if you have questions, ask me, I'd love to answer them and just trying to get everyone on the same page here in terms of understanding this insane weather that is occurring, but you know, it's the tropics, it happens every year. We see it.
Now, look, I mean, when it comes to science, right, science, you know, sometimes we'll, we'll get it wrong and they'll learn something new and, and change the way they feel about certain things. But science is also kind of very objective in a lot of ways, you know, uh, like the, the waters get warmer and then hurricanes get worse because they feed off of the warm waters.
Again, not a meteorologist, right? Uh, but this idea of people lashing out at the truth and thinking there's a greater conspiracy of people that are behind it. What's the purpose? What did they get out of it? Now, I understand conspiracies are kind of sexy. We see that in the bachelor nation world, this idea, Oh, so and so cheating on so and so, Ooh, like we, like it almost, like we almost get this dopamine rush by thinking that there's something more interesting than what's actually going on, but in most cases, the most honest truth is the most obvious truth.
Uh, here's DHS secretary Alejandro Mayorkas saying he's incredibly concerned about the disinformation around the government's hurricane response. Because if we can't even get the hurricane response. Response thing in order, how are we going to deal with elections? We are weeks away from a ticking time bomb of conspiracies that are going to come out.
There's going to be people following, uh, you know, uh, trucks saying there's poles that are being rigged. I mean, it's going to be crazy out there. Have a listen. We've seen some dangerous misinformation being amplified online. Florida's governor, Ron DeSantis, hit back hard at some of these claims that if you got help from the federal government, somehow they'd seize your assets in his state.
FEMA has been trying to counteract some of these lies as well. Are you concerned when you see this? And how widespread it is that it's a preview of what's to come with the upcoming US election as well. Attempts to manipulate people incredibly concerned and the misinformation. I should say it's disinformation, false information deliberately spread to impact people's behavior and perceptions.
It is extremely pernicious. We have individuals in need of assistance who are entitled to assistance who aren't seeking it. Because of the false information. Who's driving it? Well, I'll tell you what we need. We need individuals, elected officials, people who have the platform to really debunk this false information.
And we're not seeing enough of that. And I find that to be incredibly irresponsible and irresponsible to the People who are survivors of these extreme weather events. I love that she asked, she goes, who's responsible for this? And he did a very good job of shifting from rather than blaming the people that are responsible for sowing all this doubt and rather saying, we need people to come together.
And share the truth and vet things. So let's just all remember out there. We're going to have our crazy uncle. We're going to have our, that, that zany sis sibling or whatever. Let's just remember, uh, to be slow to the share button and quick to looking into stories to make sure they're vetted, not just screen grabs of something or anecdotal evidence.
Like knowing the difference between what one person said versus is it a trusted source? I hope you guys trust in me. I'm surely going to try to trust in what I share with you guys and make sure that it is, you know, things that, things that make sense and not just any reckless misinformation. Well, here's an interesting story.
Did you hear about this? The Saharan desert has flooded. Right aside in the Sahara desert, one of the driest places on earth has flooded. Torrential rainfall in Southeastern Morocco swamped the desert for the first time in half a century. Last month, the area received more than a year's worth of rain in just two days.
I would love it if we could divert these hurricanes to the Saharan desert and get that to be kind of like a Palm Springs. You know what I mean? Let's get a nice little place for all of us to go have some mojitos. Wouldn't that be nice? Uh, anyhow, uh, let's move on. Oh, here's a good story. Speaking of, uh, Uh, you know, sometimes I'll try to make a link and there is none speaking of floods in the Saharan desert.
How about a flood in Carson Daly's backyard and a flood of cold plunges? That's what I'm, that, that was the link I was trying to make here. Here's Carson Daly talking about his mental health and what he has done to, I guess, overcome it by doing cold plunges every day. One year ago I was at this event, maybe at one of my lower points in my mental health, physically and mentally, I was a wreck and I thought next year I want to feel better and I I treat it, I really do, so stupid, but I really, uh, tribute it to the cold plunge.
I've cold plunged every day for a year. I have a home, cold plunge, 40 degree water, two minutes, literally every day. It's really hard to do, and it turns out doing hard things is good for you. My husband and I did it, and actually it was reported at the Daily Household that no one screams louder than me.
That's true. That is true. And I only last a minute. I did a cold plunge for the first time with Tasha and I went way deeper than she did. I went down into my shoulders and she went kind of like breast level. And I was like, come on, get in there. But I, I, I can't disagree. And it's so challenging to do that by doing it, you feel like you've overcome something.
And, and of course, I'm sure there's a physical like shock to the body. That's good for you. I don't know, but you know, whenever there's anything culty out there, like you got to try this. Everyone's doing it. It's like, Oh, please. But I have to say, it sounds great. Now, do I think I've got it in me to do it every day?
Maybe, maybe, but I don't know. I mean, I just, I, I like a hot shower. I'm just a real sucker. I want a hot shower and I want to go sleep. Sunbathing at a beautiful resort in the Saharan desert. That's what I want. But Hey, who knows? Maybe, maybe we'll have to install one of those ourselves this winter. All right.
Did you, did you hear about Elon Musk's SpaceX? They had this crazy, uh, landing of one of their rocket boosters. They launched it and then landed it in, in, in the arms. It almost like caught itself. They didn't land it on the ground. They landed it. They sort of caught it on a crane of sorts. Let's play this clip.
This is a custom built tower with, uh, arms that'll, that are designed to catch the, the largest and heaviest flying object ever made and pluck it out of the air. I mean, that's the theory anyway. So. Elon just said, you know, delete the legs, delete. We're like, well, what's the, you just, just use the arms and then said it again.
I mean, they go, wow, are you serious? Okay, we better get on this. And now it seems normal. All right. So I mean, look, you can't, you can't, uh, look, he's got a 250 ton rocket booster that he's able to catch what, listen, people have their strong opinions on Elon Musk. I think his, his, you know, chatter on Twitter, like him personally, I was like, I'm all about open platforms and discussion, but I think his chatter on Twitter and his ideas.
They're often debunked is a lot of misinformation, but it's kind of like, that's the, the, the bad that comes with the good, the good being you've got an eccentric billionaire who's into tech, doing tech things that other people weren't doing. I mean, look, everyone gets mad when I drive a Tesla, but it's like, well, well, you know, the auto industry killed the electric car decades ago.
So like, we're not going to blame someone who reinvented it, made a market for it. And now all these great electric cars are coming up because of it. But Hey, I'm not here to defend him. I'm A very interesting place and what they're doing there with rocket technology is incredible. So that was a big story from over the weekend.
All right. I got a couple more things to get to. Let's take a quick break. We'll be back with more right after this. Here's a clip of, uh, actor Hillary Duff going up to a paparazzi taking photos of her children at a soccer game. Who are you here with? Who are you here with? I'm here with me. With you? Yes. Do you know any of the people on the team?
No. Oh, can you stop taking pictures of the kids, please? It's legal. It's, it's making me feel really uncomfortable. Well, you shouldn't feel uncomfortable. You want me to show you ID? I'm not asking for your ID. I'm asking you to stop taking pictures of our children. 7-year-old children. If you don't know anyone that's here, but it is legal, I'm asking you.
It's not just a law, human to human as a mother, if you don't know anyone here, can you please stop taking pictures of our children playing football this morning? What? I'm just telling you, it's not illegal. That's so, I guess it's legal. It is legal to take photos of people in public. Yes. But she has this point, which is to say, yeah, but there should be some more protection for people's kids.
She then goes on to explain the viral video and what the police didn't do to help. And the police, you know, were pretty dismissive of me saying, what do you want us to do? You're at a public park. Well, yeah, I'm at a public park. I'm at a place where kids play and kids should be safe here. I mean, we're all watching, but it's just extremely strange and inappropriate and creepy to have a man Photographing our senior old children and that to be completely legal.
Like, I think she's doing the right thing by trying to expose it and maybe they can help get laws changed. I mean, maybe there needs to be laws changed. You know, when I used to do, um, I used to shoot sketches in like Central Park and in New York City, and there was, so we had, we had this like policy. Like, if you like shoot a sketch in Central Park, just make sure the cameras aren't aimed at.
Playgrounds and the idea is being is like give the respect to people that their kids are protected It's like yeah, even if something is legal, where's the respect there, you know, so interesting stuff and in other news for the Golden Bachelorette I cover this on YouTube over the weekend, but guy the name of the guy his name's guy in ER doctor was exposed for having a Uh, restraining order, temporary restraining order against him.
His ex wife at the time has dropped the order and they tried to get it sealed, but they couldn't. And the update is that he, he says he and his wife have, or he and his ex wife have moved past that. And, and they, you know, while they couldn't get the order sealed, you know, it was a dark time in his life and he's better and this and that.
So I wanted to share that update with you guys just to make sure, you know, y'all know that, um, You know, while it's worth reporting on the story, because it is pertinent to the world of golden bachelorette, it is also to have, I guess, whatever nuance that might exist, which is if, if guy is some sort of crazy monster, you know, his ex can share her story, but she's decided that, Hey, let's let bygones be bygones.
Let's move on from it. We were married for 30 years and you know, this, that, and the other. So, you know, it's a tough needle to thread covering some of these topics because you know, it could come out that he, Oh, he's a monster. And Dave is an apologist. And it's like, no, that's not it at all. It's just that, you know, you, you know, these restraining orders, they, they come out in people's darkest times and they're all sort of like unique.
And you need to have your critical thinking skills to say, which of these is because somebody is a monster or because you're in the heat of the moment and you you're really heartbroken, or maybe, maybe, you know, maybe you're not active. You know, level headed because you're going through a divorce and whatnot.
So I think you guys all understand having covered this from the Clayton case and the Colton case and the Devon case and all these other cases that we have to look at everything from a unique lens. And I'm not a judge, but, uh, you know, I do like to share my opinion out here. So hoping that, uh, what guy is saying that he is a better version of himself.
Now, I hope that that's true. And I hope that we get to see that version of him and that he does find happiness in, uh, in the world, uh, because we, he, you know, he's obviously a major player there in the, uh, in the golden bachelorette, which will be airing in a couple of days. So anyhow, folks, whether it's indigenous people's day or Columbus day, whatever the hell you want to cover it.
I hope you have a good one. Um, I'm still here with my family in Rhode Island. You know, actually Columbus day was supposed to be a one off holiday celebrating the 400th anniversary of Columbus landing on, uh, on, on the soil. What did Columbus do? Didn't he land in Detroit where, no, I'm kidding. He was in the West Indies or what they called it.
Right? Uh, so my point being is that, uh, I know, I know there's a lot of, uh, discussion over the merits of this holiday. I think only 30 States celebrated. I'm in one of them that does, but it ain't slowing me down. I'm here to give you that content you crave. So I'm here for your morning rush. Go to work.
